ANGLIA RUSKIN university in England versus an American DL university in International Management : what criteria to use for decision ?

My objective is to use the degree for overseas postings in America Latina & the Caribbean principally

Which one has ties to climategate?

It would help to actually know which US University we are talking about.

I am referring to Excelsior or Thomas Edison for DL comparison.

I am sorry about not including the specifics

As a brazilian I think it's already pretty dumb to put all of Latin America in the same box. Each Latin America country has its own culture, prejudices, educational system and academic views - to lump the caribbean together is even more absurd.

It's like asking "What degree would be better for Europe & North America?". The question is so broad that any answer would be useless.

But I can answer the question in a brazilian perspective:

In Brazil I think would be next to impossible to revalidate a Excelsior and/or Thomas Edison degree.

In Brazil it's not like in the USA where you just send your foreign degree to be evaluated - you have to send the transcripts, syllabus, degree, etc.. to a Brazilian Federal University that has a similar degree (if they don't you're out of luck) for evaluation and revalidation.

Revalidation means that in practice your foreign degree will get the "stamp" of the Federal University to count as a valid brazilian degree.

It seems similar to send transcripts to WES but it's not - it's a long and tortuous process and most of the time you will have to take additional courses to have your degree evaluated. And that's If you're lucky - it's pretty common for a foreign degree to be denied revalidation, period.

If you have a Master degree that doesn't include a thesis you're out - a Master HAS to be a thesis in Brazil. A MBA is not considered a Master degree for this reason too.

Considering that, imagine having to explain how you got an Excelsior/Thomas Edison and convincing them that it's a legitimate degree.

Even more traditional non-DL degrees are rarely revalidated in Brazil.

For example, I'm pretty sure my MFA in Motion Pictures and TV from Academy of Art would never be revalidated in my country so I don't plan to even bother trying.

It would be a waste of my time.

That's harsh . So, the university system doesn't favor foreign degrees. However, how are foreign degrees looked at by employers and the public at large?

In the private sector a good MBA or Master from a top university in the USA, UK, Spain, France, etc... will be really well regarded, putting you a little ahead of the competition.

If the degree it's not from a top school but a good school (say, a State school - brazilians love anything related with the government, looks more legit - it's silly, I know), generally it'll be well regarded.

But not as well as a degree from a top brazilian university (the Federal ones, like mine where I got my undergrad and a few non-profit private ones, like FGV, the only AACSB school in Brazil).

If your foreign degree is from another developing country, including other Latin American countries, in general there is a certain doubt about the value of your degree.

I know that's not a fair judgement, but that's the general perception.

    Thank you to all !
I was NOT looking when asking for a comparison with ANGLIA RUSKIN university for academic evaluations but rather as one of the respondents mentioned how the degree is looked at by International Corporations ( European and North American corporations ).

I am in the process of planning to increase my chances of providing international management ( export-import and regional marketing/sales ) in Central America and the Caribbean ( Dominican Republic, Puerto-Rico)

Thanks to the Brazilian expert but no I am not looking for academic evaluation .

So , back to the question : Is Anglia Rusking better or the same as Excelsior/Thomas Edison for a first degree in International Management to land a Management position with an American/Canadian or European Corporation in Central America/Dominican Republic area ?

I sincerely hope the question is CLEARER by now.
