I'm teaching a Jr. high website building class in about a month and I would like to improve my skills at using Flash. Does anyone know of someone in Southern California with whom I could consult? Does anyone have any other suggestions? I know I could read a book, but I only have a few question and don't have the time to read yet another book these days. (This question is a little off-topic, I know, sorry)
You could find someone in a few minutes on websites like elance.com , rentacoder.com or guru.com who is able to answer all your questions for $10-20 and maybe even willing to stay "on hold" in your Instant Messenger (Skype/Aim/Etc) Buddylist for similar questions in the future.
Let me endorse the Lynda recommendation. It is an extraordinary service, with more than 45,000 instructional videos on line (including, I just checked, dozens on Flash). Nearly 10% of their content can be watched for free -- typically the first hour of a 10-hour course -- so there is a great deal that can be done with no cost.
Learning Flash The W3C has a FREE tutorial on FLASH and many other applications. http://www.w3schools.com/flash/default.asp
