Hi, I'm interested to take a DL master program in either computer science or IT at University of New England, Armidale, Australia. But I have a doubt about some matters:

    1. Is this university good enough for distance learning program?
    2. Is there any "Online" word in their diploma and transcripts?

    Thanks.

  2. Put your mind to rest immediately. UNE is a very well known university in Australia and is well regarded. It is one of the leading distance education universities in the country and has been involved in that field for over fifty years. There are thousands of graduates in this country and elsewhere.

In, Australia there is no difference between an on campus and external/online degree. Many universities here offer degrees externally which now includes online. All degrees, and indeed all universities, in Australia are government approved. The very word "university" is protected by law.

I am both a graduate of and current student of UNE. My first degree there (in the mid 1990s) was traditional correspondence (ie by mail) but the second one is online. I think you will find that even on campus students do quite a lot of work online through the Blackboard system. My first degree has no mention of external study on it and I don't expect the current one will either. But if it did, most people here would probably see that as being in your favour anyway- not everyone can do a degree that way.

I can tell you that UNE is the friendliest and most welcoming university I have had contact with. Here's a couple of examples: When doing my first degree there, I had to attend a seminar on campus and the full professor who was conducting one of the session came and had lunch with us in the cafeteria. Just the other day, one of the students in my subject posted that they were having trouble finding a copy of the textbook so the lecturer went down to the campus bookshop to check what they had.

Don't have any doubts about studying at UNE.

Michael is absolutely right. UNE is a fine university and a degree from there is held in high regard in Australia.

Is anyone familiar with or know anything about the Doctoral (Ph.D.) in Interdisciplinary Studies at UNE?

  5. I am not familiar with that particular specialisation but if it is a Ph.D, then it will be a research degree. That will mean a thesis of around 100,000 words.

As I have mentioned before UNE is a very friendly and welcoming university so don't hesitate to contact the appropriate area for more information. It is actually fortunate that you mentioned this degree, my two fields are political science and history so it might be a good one for me.

  6. Can you provide a link to this course please?

    Link to UNE Interdisciplinary Studies

I couldn't find one, that's why I asked. Sorry. I checked their tuition, and saw that it is VERY expensive, so I'm no longer interested in the school.

  8. That's a shame. There is a different fee structure for Australians and New Zealanders compared to people from overseas. For Australians and, I think, New Zealanders Ph. Ds are my favourite price - free.

Best of luck in finding something.
