This is your first post and it really looks more like an advertisement rather than advice!

It's obviously an advertisement. There are similar advertisements on other boards.

I'm not sure what services these people are selling. It kind of smells like a dissertation outsourcing business that lazy students can hire to do some of their work for them. I hope that I'm wrong about that. If this is a legitimate business, then it really needs to be clearer and more straight-forward about what it's offering.

They have a page that's apparently selling honorary doctorates. They don't say who awards them.

The Green Valley 'admissions' page seems to have been taken word-for-word from something called the 'Indian Bureau for Distance Learning'.

    The IBDL website is here:

    http://www.ibdl.in/

Despite its pseudo-official sounding name, this thing appears to the Indian marketing arm of something called Asia e-University operating out of Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. I don't know whether that's a legitimate university or not, but it certainly isn't Indian.

Green Valley helpfully includes a link to Asia e-University on its webpage. They are apparently also selling doctoral programs in India originating from some mysterious thing in Mexico called 'University of Azteca'. They claim that it's in the UNESCO Handbook.

Seems to me that India based diploma mills are getting more and more active nowadays.

Just curious, why is this a charity trust. What has a charity trust got to do with phd online?

I had approved the original post that started this thread without really looking at the link with much care. I'd like to thank the members who did a better piece of follow through.

    From Green Valley Research Foundation

    Dear friends,
As the director of the Green Valley Research Foundation I apologise for the post made in the site,it is done by an SEO without our knowledge. As far as Green Valley is concerned it is a research organisation registered with the Government of India. It is purely a non profit making organisation as such no others can run an educational institution in India. The site of Green Valley is verified by appropriate authorities in India.Regarding IBDL and Green Valley Association we are an authorised learning centre of asia e university, malaysia which is managed by IBDL.Asia e University programs in India are recognised by IGNOU and DEC which are the appropriate authorities in India for recognising foreign university programs in India.
Green Valley is having all the infrastructure and campus for its programs,we conduct traditional examination and contact classes. The University of Azteca,Mexico PhD programs are conducted after verifying the status of the university with the Association of Universities in India which is auhtorised by the Government of India to evaluate the programs of the foreign universities.
    Thank yiou,
    Dr.Subramonian.

I am interested in pursuing Ph.d online, i am thinking about UNISA because of 2 reasons, i don't want to spend money on US universities and get in debt ( i live in New york) and i can't join campus full time. UNISA seems recognized and cheap, and i can learn since it is a paid degree, if someone in thread can talk to me more about my choice out of available distance learning/research based PH.d in computers/business, i will be very grateful.

For what it's worth, Asia e University of Malaysia is a legitimate university.

I find it odd that someone would go to the trouble of digging up an old thread in order to post a question that is off-topic to that thread. But then, that's just me and you all know how I can get.:eek:fftopic:

Al-Madinah International University (located in Malaysia) and Assumption University of Thailand are other legitimate options to look at.

Why, why, would you attend a university in India unless your from India?

I didn't enroll in one, but I looked at Indian universities for doctoral study because the idea of paying a thousand bucks total in India instead of forty thousand total in the U.S. somehow struck me as appealing. Besides, why not consider universities in India?

Wouldnt be hard to explain a Cv that mentions that you lived all your life in the US, your name is John Smith, you attended two US schools but your terminal degree comes from an obscure school in India?

If I am already employed as a community college teacher and any legal PhD would give me a pay bump, I might not care about the India label but besides that it looks of little value to me.

For those familiar with international education, they're not all obscure. Certainly no more so than some of the lesser known universities in the UK, yet strangely no one ever asks the same question about them. Anyway, I suppose if I were in that situation my answer would be, "Well, I had to write a much more in depth thesis than I would have at a U.S. school, so I can understand why most students don't consider it."

An my answer to this would be "If this Indian PhD was so hard, why did you not just join your local school and completed a PhD in the US and avoid suspicion and difficult to answer questions?".

To be quite honest, most of the time you would not be given the luxury of a question.

The opportunity cost of this degree would be too high and the return low so I wouldn't do it even I was given a full scholarship for this program.

I would only do it if I was living in India or if I was a tenured teacher at a community college and any PhD would give me a pay bump.

And I would probably respond, "Because I'm out the cost of a few nights out on the town, while my peers are saddled with five figures in student loan debt."

So don't then. You seem to be assuming both that if it wouldn't be right for you it wouldn't be right for anyone, and that the only reason anyone ever does a degree program is to end up in a job interview situation. Neither of these is the case.

Meanwhile, I agree with you it's not right for every situation. So it seems we're only arguing about the extent of the middle ground, then.
