    Hello Friends,

I am interested in a Liberal Arts Masters from Excelsior College.
I believe their are thirteen concentrations areas with this degree. Can you get this degree with a concentration in management?
I know their is an Excelsior degree with thirteen concentration areas I read about it in an old post on this forum. Unfortunately I could not find it.

    Thank you,

The Excelsior MALS has 6 tracks with track 6 being self designed. I would think it unlikely that you could use management as a track. Details on page 62 of the Excelsior catalog.

Why would you want an Excelsior Master of Liberal Arts in Management when you can just get an Excelsior Master of Business Administration?

Management and Business are distinct disciplines, with Business being broad and generalized, and Management being much more specific. One would delve much deeper into management science and trade off other courses.

The MBA was the magical degree by the late 70's, long before continuing education became universally available. With the advent of night school and DL, much more specialization is now popular.

Another advantage is one might create a specialized management program (sports, engineering, technology, management of the arts, etc.).

I wouldn't be too sure that Excelsior would allow this in that 6th track. They would have to take on the responsibility for supervising the student, which would require they have available faculty skilled in one's chosen area. As they note on their webpage, "The Self-Design track requires careful planning in conjunction with a MA-LS advisor."

This program is really designed for people who (a) have substantial graduate credit but no degree, and/or (b) those wishing to study in unique areas not normally found elsewhere.

    Hope this helps.

TESC has a MS in Management - this degree requires 36 semester units whereas the Excelsior MBA requires 48 semester units.
The TESC degree allows units to be transferred in. The degree is somewhat unusual in that it has a prior learning assessment portfolio option.

Thank you for your thoughtful answers. Actually I would like to get my Liberal Arts Degree in Healthcare Management or Health Management.
Excelsiors MBA seems to be Global in outlook but not quite Healthcare related.
Of course I would consider the MBA if I wanted to enter the Marketing field.

    Thanks,

Okay, but my point was that the degree title "Master of Liberal Arts in Management" does sound a bit odd, even though Harvard offers such a degree.

I'll second that. Also, one should note that this degree requires an interdisciplinary approach. This could be a lot of fun, or it could be a big hassle, depending on one's point of view.
