Another Regents College? I like the old University of State of New York

Excelsior is an excellent school. I do however like the old Regents College. You could credit bank 120 credit hours and get a Bachelors. It was easy and low maintenance. Are there any other state acrediting agencies that will issue a basic Bachelors degree based on a credit bank? I just need a bare bones legitimate degree. If I'm not mistaken the Regents were more flexible with the mix of credits. With Excelsior you need at least 60 credits in Arts and Sciences for a liberal Arts and Science degree and at least 30 upper level courses. Regents would allow you more applied arts and scince credits such as ACE and FEMA courses. There is more red tape now. The upside you can apply for financial aid.

I think Skywalker's question was more along the lines of "Is there any school that currently offers what Regent College used to offer?" ... if so, then, maybe not.

The "Big Three", ie Excelsior College, Thomas Edison State College, and Charter Oak College, are (as far as I know) the most liberal in terms of accepting transfer credit. If none of those fit your wants, you will likely have to adjust to what they actually do offer.

I earned my BSLS degree under the USNY/Regents back in 1992. The requirements have not changed substantially that I can see. However they no longer accept CLEP English Composition and they require a one unit information literacy course.

I started at EC but finished at TESC. The FEMAs and acceptance of more 200 & 300 level courses made all the difference. TESC has since upped the requirements some, but it's still less rigid. EC would have cost me less as a New Yorker, but the 8 extra CLEPs ($800) and 4 courses (@ $1600) made the cost a wash and the added time and effort a nusiance.

Thus, I'm a proud GPA-less TESC graduate! LOL

I find it odd that TESC doesn't give you a GPA. Did that ever cause problems for you when applying to grad schools, etc? That was one of the reasons I chose Excelsior over TESC.

Up to 13 years ago the University of California Santa Cruz did not give GPAs - bachelor level were pass/fail

"Students Who Entered UCSC Before Fall 1997:
You cannot have an official UCSC GPA, regardless of how many courses you have taken for a letter grade.
No GPA appears on your transcript. However you must still maintain a minimum requirement of 2.0 in your
    UC GPA (immediately below)."

    Ian,

My younger brother likewise received his BSLS from USNY/Regents College shortly after his discharge from the Army back in mid-1980. To my understanding the degree has served him well.

You do realize that Excelsior / Regents / University of the State of New York are all 3 names for the same school, right? They aren't different institutions (other than USNY is also the name for the central state body that issues degrees in NY).

All schools have changes in degree and graduation requirements over time. I don't think this has anything to do with the name changes, just that the requirements in general are getting a little bit more rigorous over time.
