Is anyone in this forum familiar with a South African based University known as UNISA? They offer many programs via distant learning. I am concerned if I apply my application might be rejected since I had a poor GPA when I graduated from University 15 years ago. Do they have a strict admission criteria? What criteria must be met to apply as a mature student? Is a degree achieved with UNISA widely recognized?

The enrolment is extremely strict. They follow the requirements to the letter. You need to check on the entry requirements for the degree you are applying for.

Very specific. I once inquired a very long time ago about enrollment and the acceptability of an MBA as qualifying credential for their doctorate. At the time, they said the MA or MS would be acceptable, but the MBA would not. (Ironic, since my school offered the MA instead of the MBA if one wanted to complete 3 fewer courses!)

While that specific dynamic may not be in play anymore, expect similar inflexibility when dealing with them, from admissions through graduation. Cool school, though.
