Starting my first AJU MBA class. Some of you may know, they have a web cam requirement. Well, since we all have web cams, we have the option of posting message forums via recorded video instead of typing them out.
AJU uses Tokbox as the tool to make that happen. I'm usually pretty happy to type (and edit) before I submit something, but I can't wait to try this! I'll be doing it tomorrow actually. Another point, my instructor will post our homework feedback in video to each of us, not just written comments with our grade. I feel like the school is making a concentrated effort at bringing the human element into our classroom. So far- thumbs WAY up!

  2. Sounds very cool. I have always thought that web-cams and video communication should be a part of most online classes. Yet, it is still pretty rare, in my experience. I can see no reason that we can't also have live lectures and live Q & A sessions with professors using video conferencing. There may be issues with time zones, but that would not be insurmountable. We have the technology, we should be using it. It's innovations like this that will raise DL to new heights in public recognition and prestige.

Moreover, live video, face-to-face testing and other interactions could mitigate some of the issues with cheating.

Hope you enjoy your MBA experience. Keep us posted.

Sounds like something great! TUI started to give audio clips for feedback in 2004 and I thought that was really cool. By the way, what happened to Harvard is you don't mind me asking? Are you attending both programs?

I don't mind if you don't mind the mini-version. In as much as I loved that program, I felt like I couldn't justify the time and money RIGHT NOW to do something that was all about personal enrichment. With a family and kids- I had to weigh the decision heavily. That program was going to be hard and expenive (lol).

Instead, I decided to follow a different path and enter nursing school. I have been rocking out my science and math classes like crazy. I am applying (TODAY ACTUALLY) to a local nursing program. I plan to complete the nursing program and my MBA in Health Care concurrently. Unless of course my brain explodes- then all bets are off.

I warned my husband I have a love affair with Harvard, and want to go back somewhere down the road.

Nurse, ooooohhhh Nurse. Bedpan!....... Did someone say Hahvard?

  6. It seems like you are making fun of her decision. Nursing is a nobel profession and I would respect a nurse just as much as I would respect a Harvard grad, maybe more. You will respect them too the next time you are in the hospital and need their help.

you could become a quasi-harvard nurse:

They are teamed up on a post grad cert...

  8. Oops, please read the word as "noble" not "nobel" in my previous post.

Thanks Michael. I don't think he was making fun- maybe poking fun :)
I'm sure I'll change plenty of bedpans, but my goal is a nurse practitioner (midwife). Having been a birth volunteer for 4 years and having 4 births of my own- I promise you, I have no problem with fluid lol!!

cutedeedle I speak Geek. Will translate on request.

It sounds way kewl! I think it's really tough to complete any distance learning because we lack that face-to-face element. Please keep posting back on how you like it, any pros and cons you wish to share. Best wishes on your new adventure!

I actually have (2) nurses in my cohort group in my Masters program and quite honestly, I have the ultimate respect for nurses. One in my group is a head nurse in Pediatrics at CHOP, I wrote her a glowing reply to her Introduction. Like I told her, she gets to see some of the greatest moments in life realized. I believe she has one of the most important and respected jobs in America. So, no, I was not making fun of the profession, just crackin a little w/Jen. As for me, I definitely respect nurses more than Harvard grads. After all, how many Harvard grads would clean me up after a meal? Nada!

  13. Oh, Ok. Sorry. I have nurses in my family and might be a little over-sensitive. :)

Totally understand. We're actually doing a report on the organ donor program and the two nurses in my group are actively involved in it. I chose the topic and it was accepted by group, now I'm off to research. My brother's son had a tragic skateboard accident about 9 yrs ago and he had to make a decision right there and then concerning taking him off life support and donating his organs. His mom was against it at the time, it was made right after the family left. I am approaching the subject from the angle of the anguish faced by families over this decision. My nephew made the front page of the newspaper in my hometown and he was talked about over NY radio from Albany to NY City. I say this because thru all my dry humor, there is a very serious side to me. I most definitely respect nurses and hospital personnel That night haunts me till this day. I couldn't face those highs and lows every day. While they are paid well, look at what they do......they help save lives AND provide excellent care when it is needed the most. Look at executives, what the &%$# do they do? Yeah, run a business but who has the more important job? Look at the salary discrepancy. I had to get that in there, it burns my a$$.
As for cookderosa, there is no doubt she'll make a great nurse. The only problem might be she'll want to add salt, pepper and seasonings to an open wound, I'm not sure if that is proper protocol.
