Hi everyone - I moved to the US 6 months ago from Australia and I am looking at doing a Bachelor's degree online. It is very very different to what I'm used to. I want to do Business (Finance) - and I've narrowed it down to Liberty, University of Maryland or Kaplan. How are these schools viewed by employers? What kind of reputation do they have as far as the quality of their degrees go? Cost is not a huge thing as we will be paying for it upfront - but obviously I don't want to waste money either.
The difference between here and Australia is absolutely amazing to me.
I would be so grateful for any advice you could give me.
    Thank you so much.

    Now I'm more confused...

I just discovered that UMUC is not a part of University of Maryland!

So can someone please tell me .... what are some of the more reputable online universities to do a degree in Finance? (when I say reputable - I mean - in the market place).

Kaplan actually has a great reputation in Australia and Europe and UK - and certainly in Australia it is where you have to do all your accreditation for the stock exchange, and is now the best place to get your Masters in Applied Finance - it's highly specialised in the field of finance.

    HELP !

Like many US state systems the University System of Maryland has many different institutions as par of it (http://www.usmd.edu/institutions/) of which eight (8) have Univeristy of maryland as part of their name. So, in that light, yes UMUC is not part of "the University of Maryland" that is officially "the University of Maryland - College Park", then neither is:

    University of Maryland, Baltimore
    University of Maryland, Baltimore County
    University of Maryland Eastern Shore

or of course: University of Maryland University College

But they are all fine schools.

You should see what we have here in California:

Univeristy of California: Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz

And then there is is Claifornia State University with 21 campuses (plus outriding sites) with 13 having CSU in their name.

Ok - so if I were to go to a HR Manager with an online degree

which online institution would be viewed more favourably?
    UMUC
    Kaplan
    Liberty

Does anyone have a view on this?

Are you a Maryland resident yet? UMUC, no doubt. Otherwise, I would choose which one has the most attractive program for you. There are now a lot of state programs on-line, making the most attractive distance education largely a local choice.

    TEKMAN Semper Fi!

    Here is my list:

    1. University of Maryland - University College
    2. Liberty University
    3. Kaplan University

I woud choose neither any of those if I have more option. What program you're looking for? Perhaps we can give you better advice.
