  1. Hello. I've been to this site many times, but this is my first post. I'm pursuing a BA in Biology with Excelsior, but I have received an email that presents a tantalizing deal and I can't find any more information on it. Has anyone tried this?

The email was from [removed by Admin]:

Would be cool if I could find more info on this, but the link doesn't work.

Smells fishy already. Can't find the school and it is the The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and there is no meantion of this school on their website. Thumbs up or thumbs down ;)

  4. Oh, but you are mistaken. The thread you link to is a discussion with one Dr. Schwen Gregor. The email quoted in the original post was from a Dr. Greg Schwener.

One is a graduate of the school- the other is the President of Recruitment. Get it straight!

TEKMAN did not say they were the same person, but since they have the same never-heard-of-before Mu.D. and very similar names I bet they are the same person.

Apart from that it is considered bad practice to list an academic title (Dr) and degree (Mu.D.) in ones signature (and both Dr. Greg and Dr. Schwen make this same error).

    I find this puzzling.

If they made sure to alter NCA - HLC (so as not to get sued I presume), why did they go ahead with the "regionally accredited" bit? Does this mean that the phrase "regionally accredited" is not legally protected and that mills and other unwonderful entities can use it at will?

Good catch - sometimes "I can't see the forest for the trees"

  8. Hi, sorry, I was being sarcastic. Maybe he didn't suggest that they were the same person, but I submit the strong possibility that they are. Just look at the names:

    Dr. Schwen Gregor
    Dr. Greg Schwener

  9. Deaprtment Stitt, I agree with Randell, it smells very fishy. Those are fake accreditation agencies that have similar names to the real ones.

Isn't it some sort of fraud using a name that is deceivingly similar to a recognized accrediting body? Using a name like The Higher Learning Consortium is an obvious attempt to fool those who are unfamiliar with the legitimate names of these organizations. I'm not well-versed in the laws governing such things, but I would think legal action could possibly be taken against such practices.

  10. I don't know what to say after reading these posts. I already signed up for 2 of their exams, once I did a search and found out regional accreditation is the most widely acknowledged standard. They sent me a couple of thick books, which, although I haven't read, only scanned, seem to be well-written and researched. Are you saying that even after completing the study and paying them, that the degree won't be recognized? What about their accreditation? They havent answered my inquiries and their refund policy isnt clear.

  11. If you are going to school just for the joy of learning and earning a degree, then that school might be fine for you. Some employers might not care that the school is not accredited by recognized regional accrediting bodies. Therefore, a degree from there might help you with a promotion or employment. HOWEVER, and this is big, the accrediting bodies are not official and would not be recognized by any legitimate school. Many employers would also be aware of the fact that the school is not regionally accredited.

What scares me about it is the fact that they are touting accreditations with names that are similar to the legitimate accreditations. That seems like some sort of fraud to me.

You should look into other schools, in my opinion. The online school where I'm working on my PhD is legitimately accredited and it's one of the least expensive legitimate schools. I am very happy with it and would be glad to tell you more about it if you are interested.

  12. PS. Antonius touts the "North Central Administration of Colleges and Schools" when the real agency is the "North Central ASSOCIATION of Colleges and Schools" The tout the "Higher Learning Consortium" when the real deal is the "Higher Learning COMMISSION"

Having what many would consider a "fake" degree might do your otherwise fine looking resume more harm than good. PM me if you want to know about NCU. By the way, I don't work for them! :)

How did you manage to sign up? - I can't find a match for this outfit on the Internet.

Sounds like a scam to me. I would call my credit card company and ask for a refund.

  14. Yes, I agree. Call your credit card company. They almost always side with the credit card holder. If these guys are truly a scam, you might have to fight to get your money back. It would be worth the fight though.

If you are in contact with this thing, what is it using as its physical address? Where does it say that it's located?

Accreditation? As for recognition, it's just kind of a law of nature -- something that doesn't exist has little likelihood of being recognized.

    Refund policy? That's optimistic.

Also report about the school to The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Ensure to prove that University of Antonius claims accreditatin from The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
