I'm thinking about the MA in Marketing. Is this school well-regarded in the business world in the US? I had never heard of it before this board.
I can't speak about the business school but the university overall has a great reputation in the UK and is one of the older universities. I would expect its reputation in the US to be well regarded and perhaps a step below Oxbridge. Some facts here: http://www.dur.ac.uk/about/achievements/ The school has triple accreditation http://www.dur.ac.uk/dbs/about/accreditation/ I have visited the campus several times (not as a student) and can say it is one of the most beautiful campuses in the UK. Durham Cathedral is nestled in the campus.
Thanks for the info. I'm confused about the program. Does anybody know if it is 100 percent at-a-distance? The tuition page mentions fees for "seminars" as being included.
The University of Durham overall is ranked #8 in the UK out of 114 universities according the Times University Ranking League Table 2010. It is right behind the London School of Economics and Political Science. In "Business Studies" it is ranked #19 our of 110. http://extras.timesonline.co.uk/tol_gug/gooduniversityguide.php You can't go wrong with a Durham degree.
I am in the application process for the Durham MBA. I live in Europe, so my situation is a bit different from yours, but I can say that anyone who comes from the UK sings Durham's praises without hesitation. It has a great reputation and this extends throughout Europe. Any American hiring manager worth his salt should be able to see with a quick websearch that the school is tops. And it is amazingly affordable, too. The MBA is gonna cost me about what it would take to buy a Honda Civic. Of course, the MBA won't decline in value as fast as the Civic, and the Civic won't help me land a better-paying job.
The cost of a Honda Civic in the UK starts around $25,000 vs. around $15,000 in the USA. (I just bought one - its a nice car.)
