The cost is fair, the concentrations are applicable, the timeframe is great, and they are available online (3 out of 4).

    Has anybody enrolled/completed?

By the way - though the organizational communication program indicates a blended format, if you actually click through to the details of the program, it says 'this program is offered completely online' and 'this is an online program.'. I'd be interested in finding out what I might be missing...

nice catch - i'm thinking these programs are brand-spanking new. so, i may have to be the guinea pig for the board. Thinking about enrolling in either leadership or tech commercialization in the fall.

    Great find, thanks.

I can't believe that I'm saying (er, typing) this - but I'm considering the Project Management program.

Other 12 month Fast Track options

This thread has me searching for other Fast Track programs at the master's level. Does anyone know of any RA less than 18 month programs?
    Thanks,
    Ed

My reaction was due to the subject matter...To me, Project Management is about as appealing as plucking out my eyelashes one by one! However, the PM program at Northeastern would be of benefit to me in my professional career. See, I know (or at least my brain knows) that PM is an important skillset to learn for just about any profession that one might enter. It's just that my heart is not into it. When I start reading the PMBOK guide, my eyes just start to glaze over and I need a triple espresso just to stay awake!

I will most likely pursue a masters in psychology or public health. Two subjects that my brain and heart can agree on! :)

I looked into the online graduate programs at Northeastern a few years ago, and discovered the courses are not always scheduled so the degree can be completed within twelve months. I believe a minimum number of students must be enrolled in the course if it is to be offered, so I would advise you to check this out before you commit. I just completed a Master of Administrative Science degree online in eleven months, at Fairleigh-Dickinson University. I had no problems finding courses in which to enroll so I could maintain the pace I needed - a factor I found was a major stumbling block at many schools offering online graduate degrees.

That's odd considering they describe the 12-month program as a "cohort" program...

The programs that were offered when I was looking at them a few years ago were not cohort-based, so the parameters have changed. Makes sense. With a cohort plan, there would presumably always be enough students available to fulfill enrollment minimums for course offerings.

how would you describe your experience with FDU? What's total cost of the program?

The cost per course for the FDU Master of Administrative Science is $1462, or approximately $487 per credit, and the degree requires just 30 credits. I wanted a graduate degree from a well-established B & M school, along with an online program that allowed me a fair amount of control in completing the courses, which run every ten weeks throughout the year, with a decent selection available each term. Class discussions comprise a substantial portion of the grades, but I found - much to my surprise - that I enjoyed them. Graduate certificates are conferred as part of the degree, allowing for concentration in up to three areas. Here's a link: http://view.fdu.edu/default.aspx?id=64

If you don't mind - what part of the country are you from? How is FDU perceived? I'm was raised in the tri-state area, so I think of it having a good rap. But outside of the area, do people care? I hate to seem so hung-up on public perception, but... I guess I can't help it.

I am in California. I understand your concern about public perception, and have similar feelings about it. I don't have information on how FDU is perceived in my area; I used standard criteria in making a decision about how it would be perceived, such as the length of time it had been operating, the look of the B & M campus (since everyone will see it on the website), and the overall reliability factor. The latter was my primary concern - I wasn't looking for prestige, but reliability had to be fully established, with absolutely no questions about it. However, if I needed to promote FDU, it would be easy to do. Go to their website and check out their relationship with the United Nations - FDU was granted status as an NGO, a Non-Governmental Organization years ago. The faculty have extensive experience in their fields of expertise, they are the largest private university in New Jersey, and were founded over forty years ago. It worked for me.

I saw this posting in January 2010 and went ahead and enrolled in the program. It started in March 2010 and I just finished the coursework. Quality of education and instruction was good, total cost for the MS was about $22k including books. Average time spent during the courses was about 12 - 15 hours a week, 20hrs a week for the Capstone class.

    Cheers,

    Hello Consultco,

Could you give me some pointers please?

How were you able to complete the degree in 11 months?

I know for a fact that NCU courses are always available when you want them and they have weekly start times. I literally started taking a course the day I called them back in March as a non-degree seeking student.
I was given a login and had access to the syllabus. I then purchased the e-book and began the course work. 3 weeks later I was on this forum celebrating my completion of the course, Business Ethics.
I then took SKS5000, which is a comprehensive MBA foundation class and finished it in 3 weeks as well.
Now I am a full time student at NCU and am very pleased with the speed at which you can complete the coursework if you dedicate the time.

They have also made changes so that each course is now 8 weeks for new applicants. Also, if you finish early, the course ends early. This is totally new. This means that you could theoretically finish each course in 3 weeks and finish 12 courses in 36 weeks. Most people could not do this however but it is possible.
