    $76.66 x credit excitement

I was so excited with the discovery of the grad classes from Morningside college for $230 x 3 credit course... cheaper than Penn Foster! Regionally Accredited! No books to buy! Excelsior will take them!

I could hear the champagne bottles and see myself receiving (finally) my college diploma.. but.. but not so fast a voice told me.. check your degree plan...

I was checking my degree plan tonight and I still need 18 credit hours in the Arts and Sciences area. My question for you guys is

How do you think Excelsior is going to take them? Arts and Sciences or as Free Electives / Additional credit component? Titles of the classes are:

Behavior is Language: Strategies for Managing Disruptive Behavior 3 cr

Violence in Schools: Identification, Prevention & Intervention
    Strategies 2cr

Understanding Aggression: Coping with Aggressive Behavior in
    the Classroom 3cr

Traumatized Child: The Effects of Stress, Trauma & Violence
    on Student Learning 2cr

Talented & Gifted: Working with High Achievers 2cr

Learning Disabilities: Practical Information for the Classroom
    Teacher 3cr

Inclusion: Working with Special Needs Students in Mainstream
    Classrooms 2cr

    Harassment, Bullying & Cyber-Intimidation in Schools 2cr

Early Childhood: Typical & Atypical Development 2cr

I am going for a general business degree and I have already completed my 15 free electives with extra business classes so I cant apply them there

What do you guys think? perhaps someone that is currently enrolled could consult with his/her advisor?

Thank you so much.. this could make a huge difference in my life

Do you have a link to the school/cost? I found something but it say over $300 per credit.

  3. Hello,

Even though you are not enrolled, the school should still give you information if you contact the admissions office. My experience with Excelsior is that they respond rather quickly to questions from the public.

Hello, thanks here is the link:

as you can see 2 credit classes are $190 and 3 credit classes $230. I called the school and talked to the program director. She confirmed the rates and also confirmed that they award letter grades and not just pass fail.

EDU credits- that's free elective/applied professional. NOT liberal arts.

I don't know how Excelsior does things, but I did my Bachelor's at Charter Oak, which works similarly, and I think they'd have considered those not to be Liberal Arts.

Are there proctored exams? How exactly do these work? And most importantly, must one have certain qualifications? It appears this is designed for teachers who are already qualified to teach. Do they require any evidence that you are or is this open to anybody? I too am starting to get a bit excited about this potential opportunity.

It is open to anybody and exams are not proctored, it is all online, some classes need a paper to be written and no books to buy.

I wonder some of the classes have a strong psychology/behavioral science component.. if they would be counted as history/social sciences by Excelsior College.

This may be nothing but I went to Morningside College's website and found this about their accreditation:

The college is a member of the North Central Association and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
    http://www.morningside.edu/morningside/about_morningside/index.htm

So I looked them up at NCA's website and came up with nothing, but through HLC's I found them:

    http://www.ncahlc.org/index.php?option=com_directory&Itemid=192&Action=ShowBasic&instid=1247

Is NCA's website just not updated or what?

Ah okay, thanks! I just wanted to be sure this was regionally accredited because I'm keeping this as an option for courses when I start my masters in the Fall. :)
