Hey guys i found that website offering 2 credit grad level classes for just $190 dollars ($95 x credit hour) and 3 credit grad level classes for $230 (just $76.66 x credit hour!) they are fully online.

I called excelsior and they told me they would take grad credits into their bachelors degree program, I checked the Morningside college and it is fully accredited by the HLC.

On the website I could read:

"Morningside College has partnered with Virtual Education Software, inc. to offer graduate level continuing education courses for K-12 educators online or via CD-Rom. These interactive courses provide expert instruction at a pace that fits your schedule."

Is this real college credit or not? I am confused... feedback will be warmly appreciated

    Thank you!

It appears that Morningside will take some of these classes in its grad program. These classes are not listed in the ACE catalog so I would recommend you contact Morningside and ask how they transcript the classes. My guess is that you would have to matriculate at Morningside before the classes would be counted. Here again, a call may be in order.

  3. If they were and if Excelsior does accept these for their Master's program, since they allow up to 15 transfer credits, it would swoosh Excelsior's MALS into the category of some of the most affordable Master's degree programs in the country:

    $100.00 Application Fee
    $225.00 Graduate Student Services Fee
    $135.00 Degree Completion Plan Fee
    $1150.00 Morningside transfer credits ($230.00 x 5 courses for 15 credits)
    $5100.00 ($425.00 x 12 credits, for the 4 courses required from Excelsior)
    $130.00 Graduation Fee
    $6840.00

+ an extra $225.00 Graduate Student Services Fee for each year beyond the first required to complete the program, and whatever fee they charge to process your thesis (which I couldn't find on the site).

If they were only counted at the undergraduate level, that would still be a really nice deal, coming out to $76.67 per credit.

Morningside College itself is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA-HLC), The Higher Learning Commission, however I could not find any information about these courses on the ACE database, so, I conclude that they haven't been evaluated by them.

One thing I can tell you for sure, is that EC won't accept pass/fail credits into any of their graduate programs. I can't tell if this is pass/fail, but a while ago we went through this (over at IC) with the annenburg media www.learner.org situation. They have 2 and 3 credit grad classes through Colorado that were only about $200, and there was no problem at EC, but, you could only bring them into the undergrad degrees. The grad programs strictly required GRADED credits. After several specific requests and posted emails, it was clear they wouldn't even consider them. It's worth finding out from Morningside if they issue grades- because the price is great!

*edit* after looking at the syllabus for the first few classes, I'm not seeing a grade scale or ruberic.....I'm thinking these look a lot like the annenburg classes.

According to the Morningside College Graduate Education Assessment website, summative assessment is:

    Summative:
    Final grade point average
    • Demonstration of knowledge, skills, and dispositions evidenced in the final internship (for those completing special education and TAG endorsements only)
    • Written comprehensive examination demonstrating the meeting of the graduate goals and the application of knowledge and skills and including evidence of K-12 student learning (degree-seeking candidates only)
    • Presentation of Action Research Report (degree-seeking candidates only)

This appears to not be a grade assessment of pass/fail.
