Happy new year to all forum members. Wish you all the best.....

I am a new member here, just discovered this forum yesterday and found a great place of learning. Great informative....

I have read many posts in distance learning section but unable to find information regarding what I am looking for. I request you to all, please help me in this regard.

I want to earn a bachelor degree in quickest way possible, by quick I mean.. I can give time to my studies as much possible, I am working but my job involves full time sitting on computer so I can keep studying even while working plus my free time, so I can study almost 12 hours a day..... PLUS, affordable as much possible. I am working adult who has to manage all expense my own, I am also sure no financial ads etc is possible for non-us students. So, I mean by affordable, a financial plan where I have to pay on monthly basis like $100 or if possible less per month would be great for me.

I have already around 50 credit hours which I am sure will be transfer toward my degree. I was studying Bachelor of Computer Science but was unable to continue due to some personal issues. Now I am in an other country then my native, where Distance education is only option.

I apologize, I think its too much :)) , so finally, I want to finish my bachelor degree, its doesn't matter Bachelor in Arts or Science, but as quick possible plus as much affordable.

I say many thanks in advance for any input from my seniors and those all who will read only. Best wishes to all of you, hopefully 2010 would be great for all of you. Good luck and waiting for your kind replies, suggestion for my future.

    Welcome to the forum.

There are numerous schools at varying price points that will take 50 credits in transfer, some schools offer quicker completion than others. Some info that you can provide that will help us help you: are you looking for a US degree, or does this matter to you? I suspect most of the expertise on this forum relates to US/UK schools, but I may be surprised. Where did you earn your prior credit?

For example, assuming a US school is desired, quick+affordable+already have significant credit usually suggests a strategy like this:

    1. Use of credit-by-exam (advantage, you set your own pace, devise your own study plan; disadvantage -- so-to-speak -- you need to be motivated, plus you need to have test sites near enough to you to be practical)
    2. Transfer of existing credit plus exam credit to one of these schools:These colleges are legitimate, accredited, and have flexible credit policy and low residency requirements, which help to meet your goals. They can also be affordable, if you plan carefully.
    3. Being ready to learn not only the subject matter but how to manage your education, as a do-it-yourself project.
Others will speak up about their experiences and suggestions, I'm sure. I am not familiar with international issues around such a plan.

  3. That about says it all... the absolute quickest and least expensive way, if you are a studious person, is to enroll with Excelsior and earn credit for GRE subject exams.

If you score in the 80th percentile or higher, Excelsior will grant you a full 33 credits toward your degree... you can even complete a full major with it (some majors, like mine in psychology may have other requirements like a research course and a statistics course).

This, however, would require that you study like Armaggedon is tomorrow. I can't tell you how hard the GRE subject exams are, because I haven't taken mine yet, but their normal purpose is for students who have completed, or nearly completed, an undergraduate major in the subject and want to apply to a graduate school. Basically, you REALLY need to know your stuff and need to score higher than the majority of people who have already gotten degrees in the subject you take your exam in. However, even if you don't get the full 33 credits, you can still get some credit, depending on your score, and it is still dollar-for-credit the best deal I have found anywhere and one of the two main reasons I enrolled with Excelsior than the other two options. Although, any of the 3 are great- especially considering that Charter Oak also accepts GRE scores for credit. Less credit than Excelsior, but they also have a lower percentile requirement (40th instead of 80th) to grant it.

Let us know what you decide and how it works out!!!

For most of the GRE Subject tests that Excelsiors accepts, they will only give you 30 credits for 81% or above. For the GRE Subject:Mathematics they will give you up to 33 credits, and you need a 780 scaled score or above for that.

Thanks so much for all replies above.

As I mention earlier, I am a non-us degree seeker. I tried search above options GRE or other credit exams and figured out that these options are available for US base students only.

Please some other suggestion, I earned my other college credits in Pakistan. I was studying Computer Science where I have credits, Can I use these credits towards a degree , for example Bachelor of Arts ? or do I need to study Computer Science in order to transfer my credits? . I really want a degree which can be completed in less time, its doesn't a matter for me , as later I want to go through MBA.

Thanks so much again to all of you.
