    Hi All,
Do you kow of any universities that waive tuition (undergradiate or graduate) tuition for adjunct instructors?

If so, can you just provide a brief summary of the university, the bennefit provided (one class credit per class taught, undergraduate credit only,... whatever) , and a link???

    Thank you for sharing,
    Mike

No, but you've captured my attention with such an interesting question... That would be a distance learning enthusiast's dream, wouldn't it?

I thought Frankin University offered this benefit.

Kaplan University has a program where adjuncts can earn a free degree of their choice, as long as they apply and meet the admission requirements. You have to have a 3.0 GPA throughout the degree program and pay for books yourself. You also have to remain employed at Kaplan for 1 year after you finish the degrees:

The free benefit does not apply to their Concord Law School, but you can qualify for a 25% reduction in tuition.

Various places have tuition benefits for adjuncts. Devry recently stopped theirs for adjuncts and only full time employees can benefit.

At CityU of Seattle you earn 1 free class for every free course that you instruct. You have to pass the course and pay for books on your own. You also have up to 1 year to take each free course that you earn or you simply lose the free course. They also will wait until after registration to register you for the course, since students have first priority as they should!

I just started adjuncting with UoP. I'm still in the mentorship phase, but I thought I read somewhere that adjunct instructors got a discount on their tution. If I recall, it was something like 50% off masters-level courses and 33% off doctoral level courses.

That is good...it brings them down to just over-priced instead or really over priced!

As Randall points out UOP is seemingly well over-priced (e.g., their MBA is a 36 to 54 hour program; $70,740 - $106,110 investment with ACBSP accreditation). Moreover, Phoenix charges its cyber-students a premium over what it charges on-campus students; a “cash” cow pricing strategy (?). What’s been remarkable to me this school (enterprise) has grown exponentially despite its sub-par graduation rates, high tuition and lack of tradition or prestige.

However the UOP continues to march forward … “The Phoenix-based company, the nation's largest private university with nearly 400,000 students, soundly beat Wall Street's expectations, reporting net income of $125.3 million, or 77 cents per share, compared with $70.3 million, or 41 cents a share, excluding special items a year earlier. The bad news: Apollo's bad-debt expense continues to rise as students who dropped out in the past struggle to pay their remaining balance. Apollo's bad debt was 4.1 percent of net revenue in the second fiscal quarter, up from 3.8 percent a year earlier. Company officials said that figure may continue to rise given the weak economy.” (re: Apollo Group's quarterly revenue surges).

Franklin - one undergraduate course for adjunct or adjunct's immediate family member for every course taught by the adjunct. My wife is finishing up her BA with this benefit and it has been great - we just pay the price of books.

AMU/APUS - 50% tuition reduction (undergrad. and grad.) for adjuncts. 100% tuition for full-time faculty members.

    AMU/APU discount for adjuncts

    Hi Truckie,
Can the discount at APU be bankrolled, or must it be used in a certain window of time?? Is it a 1-for-1 basis?, like one class at 50% for each class taught??

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike
