    Hi all

I will start a MSc programme at University of Liverpool (UOL) in January.

Acutally, I am not sure if I should do the one in International Management or the other in Corporate Finance.

    My Background:
    - BBA with Major in International Management
    - Expert Certificate in Business Informatics
    - CISA, PMP, Prince2
    - Working as a Management Consultant, mainly consulting large companies in "how to build and run project portfolio management" -> that means I normally work for the customers strategy office

Regarding allocating ressources I am interested in finance know how. On the other side I am affraid that the MSc Corporate Finance is too spezialized and too much math and statistics (where I am actually good in, but I don't like that for 2 years....). In addition, I am interested in Strategy, Operations, Marketing and so one. I like the "entire" thing -> how to run a company. But, MSc International Management sounds a bit like bla bli bla bla -> a bit of everything but unexceptionable.

To keep a long story short:
I talked to someone who did the MSc IM. Now, I am looking for someone who has done or is still doing the MSc Corporate Finance at UoL.

    Thx!

    Cheers
    DonW.

    My experience

    Hi,

Since you already had some feedback on the IM program I am not sure how much value this adds but in any case here are my experiences. I had a similar experience as you in that I found the IM program pretty high level and more geared towards people with no management and limited business experience. I was looking for more details and I already have actual hands of management experience. I ended up dropping out since I did not see too much value in the program. Based on this I would recommend the Finance course instead. While IM was not the right course for me I had previously graduated from UoL with an Msc in IT which I greatly enjoyed and got a lot out of. Also I have had very good experiences in terms of the reputation of the university => it is a solid well respected B & M school.

    Cheers,

    Hi preisma

Thanks for your prompt answer and sharing your experience.

Actually, I have management experience too. I learned it on the job by doing, during my BBA and in some courses I took besides my job.

I am sure that with the MSc in Corporate Finance I would learn a lot about financial markets and so on. It could be a great door opener into the financial industries.

But, I am afraid that it could be to much details, too much math, “only” finance, not enough management and “the entire” picture view. Just because I want to learn about finance and don't want ending up as a controller oder CFO or so .-)

With your experience from UoL gained at he masters level: How deep do the courses go into the details and the “basics”?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers

    Hi,

From my experience the classes are manageable from a difficulty level. The one thing to note is that when I did the MSIT I found them very time consuming. I easily spent 20 hrs a week on class work and I spent hundreds of hours on my dissertation. In any case I found the dissertation to be much more challenging than the course work. If you have a solid business background and some prior finance exposure I would think you will be ok. The easiest way to find out might be to ask the admissions advisor if you can review some of the syllabus for the individual classes.

    Cheers

It's been awhile since I completed their MBA program, at that time, it was a general MBA with little chance to specialize. Today I believe you can hold a specialty? Anyway, I agree with everything Preisma says, the time spent is directly proportional to what you'll hope to get out of the program. I would say I spent 20 - 40 hours per week and that 's with no messin' around!

The biggest influence for me was the desire to obtain the highest marks possible and that means you have to work hard. My goal was to graduate with distinction in at least all of my courses possibly including the dissertation,, so that I could leverage my education into a doctoral program some day. The dissertation was a real challenge too, and probably the most rewarding for me as well.

    Good luck!

    Msc Corporate Finance UoL

    Hi there,

Im currently on the verge of applying for the Msc Corporate Finance program at the University of Liverpool and I was wondering if anyone who already went through this programme could give me some feedback.

I have a bachelor in finance and successfully passed the 2 first CFA exams.

Is this Msc going to further enhance my knowledge/skills in financial analysis and valuation (The answer is probably yes but to what degree) ?

    Thanks,

    R.
