Forgive me if I've duplicated a question asked in the past, but I didn't seem to find a similar thread that explored this in my search.

I've noticed a few threads where people want to avoid programs that require entrance exams, and it has me curious as to why?

For example, the GRE... Its just another test, and you can take it more than once if you need. Maybe I don't get it because I do well in test settings, and I'm in a zone where I'm happily testing along right now.

The only reasons I can think of are Monetary, Locality, Psychological, Lack of... Enthusiasm(? for a better word) or Time.

    • Monetary - Don't want to have to pay the cost of the test.
    • Locality - Would have to travel a great distance to take the test.
    • Psychological - Fear of taking the test, or testing in general.
    • Lack of ... - Just outright not wanting to study for or take the test
    • Time - Don't have the additional time to study for the test itself, or not wanting to have to wait for results to get sent to the school in question.

Am I missing something? I guess the process just seems pretty innocuous to me, as far as taking a bit of time to prepare and sit down and take the test, when the end results would mean access to programs that you couldn't enter without it, especially if some of these programs might offer something to the individual over other programs (lower cost/prestige/certain subjects/format/whatever.)

    Thanks for your input.
