I was sitting here thinking that although strides have been made in distance education in the past decade, that the only area still appears to be moving at turtle speed is in ABA approved law degrees. I'm curious; do you think ABA schools would ever offer a JD degree online? Just curious.

I'm sure many law schools would be delighted to offer them, but the ABA won't let them. One of the points of being a licensed profession is to keep potential competitors out. Resisting distance learning is a way to do that.

Sadly, the only institution more entrenched in outdated dogma and resistance to change than academia is law. As long as there are people still willing to drop $200k for a degree, why should they change? They can sit on their bully pulpit and continue to pump out ambulance chasers and law clerks who are indentured servants due to their loan obligations. Me cynical (and bitter)? nahhhhh!!!

I think there are schools offers courses via distance learning, but not the entire program. I believe Penn State is one of them....

Wasn't there some recent thread about the ABA finally abolishing their regulations against distance learning? Or was I mistaken?
