I am doing research in the area of compensation for online facilitators. I want to know what online facilitators get paid for three and six credit hour courses at a regionally accredited university. Do they receive any types of benefits? Is there an online facilitator union? Many Thanks for your help. Brenda
No benefits or union as far as I know. The going rate at several on-line schools that I know is $1700 for a six week, 3 semester credit course. Regards - Andy ------------------ Andy Borchers, DBA NSU (1996)
The research I've found states this figure as an average rate too. Thanks Andy! -Brenda Originally posted by Andy Borchers: No benefits or union as far as I know. The going rate at several on-line schools that I know is $1700 for a six week, 3 semester credit course. Regards - Andy
I've not yet taught online, but for comparison purposes, the last course I taught at a residential community college paid $2500 for a 15-week, 3 semester hour course. The class met once a week, for 3 hours a night. There was no union & no benefits, I signed a 15-week contract. Bruce
Lucky Bruce... the going rate round these parts is between $1800 and $2200 for a 15-week class. jon --- who is (thankfully) now full time
Webster University $2450 per 8 week, 3-credit course Preference is given to instructors who have taught 'live' classes for Webster. An additional stipend is given to attend an online teaching seminar before the first time teaching and to set up a class for the first time. Hworth
Brenda, You should also check out http://www.onlinelearningmag.com Down the main page a bit, you will find a couple of salary surveys that may assist you. http://www.onlinelearningmag.com/onlinelearning/images/pdf/salary_survey.pdf
Couple of things: First, thanks for the link to the distance learning magazine. I'm getting ready to start teaching my first online class so it will come in handy. Second, the rate at U of Pheonix Online which is a popular school is $930 for a five week 3-credit class -- so a little lower than the average. (And if I'm not mistaken, their tuition is above average... hmmmm!) Anyway, I know this is pretty late after the discussion but really wanted to say thanks for the link. Nancy
$1700 for a six week on-line course is a flat rate for teaching up to 15 students. Thanks - Andy ------------------ Andy Borchers, DBA NSU (1996)
Andy, I am looking to begin teaching online asap. Can you tell me in which schools this goal can be most easily achieved? Thanks for your help> ------------------ Darren Cross BSB-Management, UoP MBA-Fontbonne College
I have found online teaching (and course design) opportunities through professional development providers that partner with universities. Unless you are full time faculty at a college, the best you can get is adjunct online teaching. By teaching for 7-10 different universities across the country through PD providers, I seem to have enough work to translate into full time teaching and writing If you need assistance with some job search strategies, visit my website and sent me an email. I'll be glad to give you a few tips to get you started. Finding the online teaching positions is almost a full time job in and of itself -- but once the contacts are made it's smooth sailing after that. Good luck to you. Leslie
