So, let's say that a college closed, and a graduate from that school lost his degree and transcripts. Is there a way to get in touch with someone who can verify this information, even if the school's closed??

Maynard - It is customary for a nearby school to take over responsiblity for this. For example, when the Detroit Institute of Technology shut down several years ago, all of their transcripts were sent to Lawrence Technological University. DIT grads can request transcripts from LTU.

There is a benefit for a school taking on this task - in LTU's case, they work the DIT alumni for fund raising opportunities.

    Regards - Andy

It does seem that when an RA college closes nearby colleges take over the transcripts. A legitimate private Trinity College closed in VT this past year. It was a founded as a catholic womans college. The records will be housed and maintained by the other local catholic college which started as the mens catholic collge. There may be some oddities in the housing of the transcripts. One of the programs was moved into a Southern New Hampshire College. That programs records would then be housed by the New Hampshire college.
What happens to records when a non-RA school closes may be a more difficult quesiton.
