According to the Open CourseWare Consortium, "an Open CourseWare is free and open digital publication of high quality educational materials, organized as courses." BYU Independent Study is happy to offer selected courses from the university and high-school portfolio in our Open CourseWare pilot program.
    How does Open CourseWare work?
You may view, use, and reuse all materials in the Open CourseWare courses. Please note that Open CourseWare courses do not provide the opportunity to submit assessments for credit, interact with faculty, or receive credit or a certificate upon completion. BYU Independent Study provides these courses as a community service under a Creative Commons license. The course materials are freely available for you to use, download, modify and share as long as you do not sell the products you derive from them.

David Wiley is heading up this initiative. He is a leader in the whole "open education" movement and is a pretty brilliant guy. BYU's public speaking course, just won a national award, so it is worth checking out.
