I took an independent study course English 101 from Univ. of Idaho in 2007. I tried to get it to transfer to a local community college, and it will not transfer because my final grade on my transcript was a "P" instead of a letter grade. The community college only accepts letter grades. I emailed idaho about this and haven't received an answer yet. It's a course from a RA university transfering to a RA community college. Shouldn't they transfer? Has anyone else had the same problem? This sux if it doesn't transfer.
I did find this policy from the University of Idaho about their Independent Study Courses, this should help you out: Course Credit Independent Study in Idaho courses carry from one to four credits each. University of Idaho students working toward a degree must have written approval from their academic dean to register for an ISI course, and to ensure that ISI college credits are applicable toward their degree. It is recommended that students at other institutions obtain signature confirmation that ISI credits will be accepted. This form can also be accessed from Forms. http://www.uiweb.uidaho.edu/isi/appendix.htm Of course its up to any college whether or not they accept credits from any other institution. I have seen this happen before. One of the local community colleges will not accept an 8 week Introduction to Biology course from a local private 4 year university, but they will accept the Introduction to Biology course if you take it in the 16 week format, because this version of the course requires more labs. You should try to obtain the course description, a copy of the syllabus, and any assignments and follow the appeals process at the community college.

Yes, it should transfer but it's always up to the receiving school. They can do what they want. Do you happen to know if your cc accepts the English Composition with Essay CLEP exam? That's a P/F, if they do, you could maybe appeal the decision about your class or even just take the CLEP exam.
Someone from independent study replied to my email and stated that English 101 was the only course that doesn't receive a letter grade. I'm taking English 102 at the moment, and it does receive a letter grade. I wonder how my community college is going to respond to this course since I wouldn't have English 101 on my transcript yet. Independent study contacted the english department to help me out on this one. They gave me a name and number to forward on to the admissions department at the community college. They're closed until next week. In the mean time, I'm going to write a letter, gather my grades in Eng 101 and forward all of the information I can to the admissions director to help me get this appealed. Hopefully, they can bend the rules on this one. If not, then I may try to take the clep because I know they accept that.
