Can you take a semester off? Recharge your batteries, get some fresh air, etc? Good luck with your decisions - I am sure we have all been there at some point.

I am a bit scared to take time off. I my get use to the freedom and not want to go back... besides that my parents will not let me stay in the house if I do that lol.

If you are still living at home, and forgive me if I make assumptions, not working. There really is no need to go with the distance learning. Perhaps the face-to-face interaction with peers at a local community college or university would help with your situation?

Why are you going to college? What Major? Are you trying to make more money, start a career?

This place is littered with people who have taken time off from college. We finally earn our degrees in our 30's, 40's and later. So, if the degree is something that you really want and need to make your living, sorry to say you will have to suck it up.

If, on the other hand, you are living on financial aid and just sort of coasting through school willy-nilly...you need to stop immediately. You are wasting time and money.

    Good luck to you.

Where are you taking your degree?

Have you considered doing an Excelsior degree? That way you can pick courses that you are interested in or experienced in.

Just take one course at a time which gives you lots of time to persue other activities.

I eaned my two masters degree one course at a time by attending school one night per week or on weekends. At the time I was working 60+ hours per week.

You will be surprised how great you feel when you get that diploma to hang on the wall.

Without knowing your specifics, you need to re-group. How long do you have to go? I would take it one day at a time, make a plan, then look it over, step away, look at it again. If this was easy, everyone would have degrees. Maybe mix up your classes next term to only those you really enjoy, that may help. Good luck.

I took three graduate classes this semester and it is a ton of work. I'm have great grades in all three but it's burning me out. I'm going to only take one in the spring to recharge. I don't want to skip a semester as I need some momentum to keep going. Maybe reduce the number of classes in the spring so you have lots more free time but still are making progress?

Maybe program you're in just isn't for you. You might check out other careers you can get into with an apprenticeship or a two year or less tech school course. Think long and hard about wasting time and money in college for something you really don't want or need. A degree on the wall is nice but earning a good paycheck and doing something beneficial and enjoyable is priceless.

You have the advantage of youth, you can try lots of different things. The ability to gain a degree will always be there.

I am working on my Ph.D at Walden in Psych. But when I look at things I think that is really just the job making sad. The job I have is really bad and stressfull. Besides that I am only getting 11.71 per hour. So I am losing my hair , getting fat , and bombing my classes for nothing. I think I will just leave my job .

I would really like to get a adjunct professor or something in that nature.

Han: I have a few years to go lol . I was thinking about changing to Regnet U. Pat Robersons school. There I could work there, and only have 3 years before I get into the world.

Ia: I have never heard about those Excelsior degree, after looking into it they do not have what I need. However I love the name... it is what Stan Lee always says .

magoals: WOW my stress seems to be nothing like yours.. That is some will power .

If you don't belong to a gym you should join. It'll relieve the stress and help with the fat thing. Lift weights a lot, cardio a little bit.

My kid makes about $11 an hour at Wal-mart with any stress self imposed. If your job blows definitely try to find something else with low stress like Walmart. Get a job in the tire/lube department, the physical activity will do you good.

See I do not have time to go to the GYM. My job in not in my area so I have to drive a hour or so there and back. So my time I get back home it is .. time to read for class .. eat and go to bed.

But I am glad you gave me the suggestion of wallmart. I think late night at Wally World would be a good job. Not to many people, 10% off my stuff. And I may even get to meet some nice co-workers. LOL

Walmart can be very flexible. My kid works Th-Mon and goes to university the rest of the week an hour and a half away from home (BS in Industrial Technology). He's accrued vacation and doesn't have a hard time getting time off for hunting and fishing trips. My other kid and daughter in law all worked at Walmart while finishing up their degrees.

After completing 18 hours of my PhD (Counseling), I took off a year. Great idea!
During my masters program, I delivered pizza 4 nights a week. Definately made more than $11 per hour (cash!), read textbooks between (and during!) deliveries, and didn't have to think very hard.

I'm currently 1/2 way through my PhD, work full-time as a clinical coordinator at a community mental health center, teach online year-round, and have a family of 6. Its not always fun at 3:30am but the end is in sight!

You did not mention you were doing a Ph.D. in your initial post so my response above does not apply to you.

If you think an hours commute is bad you obviously do not live in Southern California - I often have a two to four hour commute to work. :(

Anyway you can use your commute time to study; put stuff you want to learn/review on a CD or iPod and listen while you drive (or just listen to your favorite music - Wagner or Puchini hypes me up for the day ahead).:)

:( Two to four hours! And I think it's a drag to have to drive 4 minutes home for lunch each day. I guess you're not listening to Sigfried Idyll during that trip.

Does that mean you under-reported your income?

Well, if you are in a PhD program I will assume you have a masters. Would it be worth quitting your day job (since you hate it) and trying to get as many adjunct jobs as possible? You could make $50K a year working from home (less then 40 hours) in a low stress environment.

You should also ask yourself - do I need a PhD? Why are you getting it and what is the ROI?
