    Really too bad!

See: Please Note: Admission to the online Computer Science Bachelor's and Master's Degree programs have been suspended, as the program will end in December 2011. Also, due to budget cuts, CSU, Chico is not accepting applications from students seeking a second baccalaureate degree, either in an online or on-campus program.

Not to mention the UC and CC systems.

Fortunately someone I know at a UC school just got a major research grant so her job is safe.

UC schools are based on senority, so the grant may save her for a year or two (out of grant funding), but the long term positions makes no one safe.

In her case she is working on projects involving teams from several universities. She has a 3+ year grant and in two years will move to a non-California University research partner. In bio-chem there seems to be no problem in finding research grants, faculty positions, or jobs in industry for doctorates.
