Has anyone heard of Davenport University? It looks like the school gives 25% discounts for veterans and has a 21 units of finance and accounting depending on which MBA program to choose.

Davenport is a good accredited school with multiple campuses in western Michigan in addition to their online programs. I'll email my cousin, who is working on her MBA in Health Care Management at Davenport.

Seem if your cousin can email me a syllabus on the core classes. I noticed their semesters are only 7 weeks long.

After noticing that you can get an MBA in Accounting without having an undergrad intermediate accounting, I'm getting more undecided on accounting or finance concentration. I would assume that accounting is more focused on just account and finance is more broad into different fields?

Davenport is a credible school - they've come a long way in the last ten years.

However the curriculum for the MBA with an accounting concentration is NOT credible. You can graduate with an graduate-level accounting degree with only a basic (ACC 510) course in financial accounting.

If they only allowed individuals with undergraduate accounting degrees to enroll in the concentration, it would make more sense. How can they put individuals with 24+ hours in accounting and students with only 6 hours in the same classroom? Almost all of the accounting concentration course titles would ordinarily presume a significant background in financial accounting. Forensic accounting with just a basic three-hour course in financial accounting <guffaw>? I can't imagine what employer would hire a graduate of this program unless they had significant undergraduate coursework in accounting.

I just spoke with them today and they said I would need to get two letters of recommendations and take the GMAT. I pointed them to the site that says if your GPA is over 3.4 that it's waived. They mentioned that is only for undergraduate Davenport students. I was a little disappointed, because I mentioned if I have to take the GMAT, I might as well apply to schools like Indiana, Mich, Nebraska, and Morehead State. I have been studying the GMAT for the past few weeks, but still undecided if I plan to take it, because I have not found any programs that is less than 40 units that offer 15 units in accounting or finance for MBA. I know Michigan has a 30 unit MS in Finance. When I saw the amount of finance and acct courses for Davenport I was curious.

I sent my cousin a request to join degreeinfo and comment on the Davenport MBA awhile back. I just now sent her a renewed request to join degreeinfo along with a request that she email you the syllabi. :)
