I am looking at Regent's Doctor of Strategic Leadership degree program as my next step. http://www.regent.edu/acad/global/academics/dsl/home.shtml I know they are a little pricey and require three weeks over three years on-campus. I like the fact that it is a B&M school and not an "online" school. Does anyone know of any negatives about this degree or school? Negative perceptions? I assume it is in the ballpark with Liberty U? Any current students? My goals for the future are to adjunct teach, consult and continue leading large organizations, as I do now. Thank you in advance for your response.
Hi Jay - I am in a similar boat and have been looking for what to do next after my MS in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State. I looked at Regent's program as well, and while it does have a number of appealing aspects, the residencies were a bit offputting to me. Further, this is a fairly young school that is not ranked very well in the less-than-scientific USNWR reports - a Tier 4 school across the board. In addition, it was founded by and continues to be associated with Pat Robertson, which for some people is a huge turn-off. If you look purely at the statistics, they have a TON of doctorate students (at a pretty substantial tuition rate, no less!) vs. the entire student body population (1000 vs. 5000). They do put out some pretty publications though I get mailers from them quite frequently. Mike
I also am looking into the Ed.D in Org Leadership at Argosy University. However, I really like the structure of the DSL program at Regent but wonder if an Ed.D would not be more recognized/accepted for both teaching and consulting? I don't mind making the investment as I am still "fairly" young but want to get a degree that will have the greatest utility outside of the PhD. Getting a doctorate from a B&M school with an online component is attractive too.
Well, Tier 4 National rating is much better none or regional teir 1. I think Regent University is better than Argosy, NCU, Capella, UofP, and etc.
Tekman - I'm inclined to agree with you on that point. If I had to make a decision between said schools and Regent, I'd go with Regent. By the way, Jay, not sure why I didn't think to mention this before, but Mountain State, whom I've had a fairly positive experience with thus far, offers a Doctor of Executive Leadership that just launched this year. You can do the digging on their website, the thread on here about it, or just google-ing, and find the info about the school. It is less expensive than Regent, and has some solid selling points. Mike
