    Hello,

I have an MBA and desire to get a doctorate. Primarily, I think it will open up more adjunct teaching opportunities, and it will allow me to teach graduate level courses.

I have heard of the following:

Grenoble @ approx. 50K - I am concerned about having to go overseas and the recognition of it.

    Kennesaw State @ 79K

I did see where Pace University has a Doctorate in Professional Studies in Business. It's about 56K. It's AACSB accredited. I am leaning towards this one because the residency schedule fits really well with me. It would have very little interruption to my family. My only hesitation is I wonder if the DPS (Doctorate in Professional Studies in Business) label would not be as acceptable as a DBA? I have seen where people have received teaching positions at an AACSB school with the DPS.

I went the Grenoble route. Every other residency is in the US. I received a tenure track position within a year of my degree award. The only issue was the stigma of overseas (most think 'if I don't know the name, it must be a bad school' " - so I would put on the application "AACSB accredited" after the school name. Now that the Dean at Grenoble on the Board of Directots of AACSB, it is lessening the issue.

Doesn't the Pace DPS require attendance at weekly evening classes on campus campus?

    Han,

Thanks for the information about Grenoble. That does sound good that it worked out for you. I am not sure I can get the time off for the residencies. Is the residency 1 week a year (in France) for the first 3 years?

    Ian,

Pace's Lubin School of Business Doctorate in Professional Studies in Business requires a once a month residency. That residency would be on Fridays from 8AM to 3PM. There are 3 electives that require a one night a week course but 2 of the 3 electives can be done without weekly attendence. For the third course the worst situation is having to be in New York for a semester to complete that. Otherwise they may have an online option by the time the student has to complete it because they are adding more classes online.

Essentially, the way I look at it is that if I work 10 hours a day Mon-Thu, then I could fly to the residency and back the same day without losing vacation. Also it wouldn't effect my family because I would be back by 5PM. I would just have to do this for about 2 years 6 months and only 1 day out of the month. Then the rest could be done without scheduled residency.

So my only concern is the stigma of having a DPS instead of a DBA. Anyone in this forum that does hiring at a university? If so, would you consider an AACSB DPS of lesser value then an AACSB DBA?

    Thank You,

That is how it worked in my cohort, but I have heard this year's beginning is starting in LA this month, so it seems to change from year to year.

Jacob, Grenoble is one of the few Triple Crown certified Universities and a DBA from it will pretty much guarantee a position at a good school. Most great schools know about european universities with DBA like Maastrich, IE (Instituto de Empresa), ESADE, etc., because they are at the top in World rankings and if you go to conference or symposium you will encounter research presentations from them.

On the DPS, at this point if you check the post for teaching positions most will say PhD or DBA from an AACSB accredited college, but Pace is well recognized especially on the East Coast and even this been an Executive program, their graduates seem to have good placement at other colleges. You can put on the resume Doctorate in Business DPS and it won't be misleading since it is a Doctorate of Professional Studies in Business.
