Why are you so negative about Northcentral University (NCU)?

I don't think anyone is particularly negative about Northcentral U. In fact, the people on this board who are enrolled in an NCU program seem to be quite pleased with their experience.

The only thing that comes quite often about NCU is its limitation for people looking for tenure track positions. Most of us agree that NCU's program is not ideal for those looking for tenure track positions but helps for those looking for adjunct gigs. This is not really a negative issue but only a limitation of the program.

They are driven by GREED, they don't care about core values - ie, students.

    NCU's Marketing Line:
We create a unique 100% online academic program just for you, allowing you to pursue professional interests beneficial to your career, receive personalized guidance from Faculty Mentors, and schedule learning at your own pace to suit your busy lifestyle. Many online schools mandate weekly attendance, campus residency, and rigid, inflexible program requirements and term schedules. Not Northcentral!

Why - my 2 cents: Northcentral University is a good example of a school that will bring down the standards of regional accreditation.

I've been to UoP (graduate level), NCU and to a state university (masters) and the rigor of the latter two was equivalent. Having said that: I don't see how it's possible to teach people how to do a dissertation at a 100% online school because the coursework isn't adequate preparation for it. At the B&M masters program that I attended, they were able to impart to the students some of the basics of research methodologies, but I don't see that happening in online coursework i.e. either you know it or you don't.

    Take money

On October 8, 2008, NCU announced the university was being purchased by Rockbridge Growth Equity, LLC. Rockbridge is affiliated with other businesses including Quicken Loans, One Reverse Mortgage, Title Source, ePrize, Veritix and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

    FYI :)

    UOP is better than NCU

    Why,

    1. Not in the mortgage business
    2. I hold a MAOM 1992 from them
    3. Diversity

The 2008 UPX Academic Report shows a diverse student and faculty makeup. According to demographic information in the report, on average the student/faculty population is more diverse than the national average for higher education institutions. African-Americans make up more than 15% of the university's 22,000 faculty members, with about 6% as Hispanic. The national average in recent years showed about 5% as African-American with about 3% as Hispanic.

It would be difficult to do an 100% online program dissertation but not impossible. In the case of Capella U. they provide lots of support at "in-person" colloquias, workshops, and retreats available to students plowing through the dissertation process. You also can be interacting online and via phone with your dissertation course professors and also your mentor and dissertation chairman. In effect, you are not on your own to figure out all the dizzy ends and outs of the crazy dissertation phase.

Yep, Capella is not selling loans - I guess they are in the education business.

    Agreed.

I suppose that the same thing can be said about the entire subject of business, both business schools and the countless students that those schools serve. The whole thing revolves around greed and self-aggrandizement. The beauty of the market system is that it harnesses otherwise anti-social motives to socially valuable ends, by making it profitable to produce goods and services that others in the market desire and are willing to pay for.

Personally, I prefer higher-education programs that are run by academics with a personal passion for the subjects that they teach. I'm attracted to programs with a sharp sense of intellectual excitement. But I've never been a business major and my motives aren't necessarily those of the business world. My view of higher education is perhaps closer to its historical origins in the medieval cloister.

And UoP is driven by.....Please - do tell. By the way, TUI is better then UoP because, well, I hold an MS-ITM from them. Wait, NCU is better then Penn because I picked NCU instead of Penn. ;) Oh...wait, Kennedy Western is better then Yale because people picked KW. This can be fun!

Ok, go back in time to 1992 and look at UOP vs. say National - YOU HAD TO ATTEND CLASSES

    NCU ?

BTW, I’m not a BIG fan of UOP, but I’d rank them top of the bottom quartile and NCU would be bottom of the bottom.

The typical "mature" discussion of my degree is better than yours. I really think the market can care less if your degree is from UoP, NCU, TUI or other online for profit school. This type of degrees have its limitations but also can work for a lot of people.
I wouldn't care much about few bad negative posts about a particular school, the general feeling is that the school is doing something right as they are still in business.

    Ok, i have changed :)

Ok, I changed my mind; NCU is OK in my books for Bachelor level fast trackers only!

Then you need to bump it up……

Admission to Northcentral University does not require the SAT, ACT or other entrance exam. If you've earned a high school diploma or GED or equivalent, you are eligible for this baby.....

I do agree - in my opinion you went to Harvard or Yale or someplace else. A degree will meet someone needs and that is what matters. Didn't mean to fall into the "mud slinging" but it is easy sometimes.
