    Hi,
I am asking this question for my cousin. She has a Associate of Science in Early Childhood Development and is interested in becoming an elementary school teacher. What she is looking for is a Reginally accredited college that offers a Bachelor Degree of General Science that she could transfer her credits to in order to earn a degree. Preferably she wants a US College with lowest cost possible with a coursework based program. She lives in Michigan and will want to teach there. I don't know if distance learning degrees are accepted in the teaching profession, but any information regarding this would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Thanks

The first thing that your cousin needs to figure out is whether a bachelor's degree alone will qualify her to teach or whether Michigan requires a Post-BA certification program (as most states now do). If this is so, it is probable that a BA or BS in most any field will work (although one in Liberal Studies or Elementary Education is probably a better bet).

Some programs that she should check out would be Rio Salado College (in Arizona; she could even get a teaching credential there *if* Michigan and Arizona have reciprocity), University of Northern Iowa, Liberty University, St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, as well as others listed in our book (see link below).

If she's looking to transfer so many units, she should look into Thomas Edison State College, Excelsior College, or Charter Oak State College. However, she doesn't necessarily have to find a place to transfer units because she has an Associate degree alreay and some places may take that as completion of a certain amount of the degree (irrespective of number of units).
