I have a Masters, in human relations; an off shoot of counseling. I am now working on my Ph.D in psych. But I am thinking about leaving the school that I am going to the University of the Rockies . I would be leaving Walden. I know that the Rockies have a program that is a accredited by the APA. So I was thinking that after I got my Psy.D that I could go back off and on and take the classes that I need to be Oked by the APA . I am not sure that this is possible yet . The school that I got my Master's from does not have a PhD Psych program just one in counseling. At on time I was planning to do that.. but I do not see how a PhD in Counseling can help me. Am I right just to walk away from this ? Walden is better known, and McCain and Obama even did a debate with Walden so I know they are legit. I mean two people like that would not waste their time there if it wasn't. But these classes are a little higher and I think I would have to spend more time there . I am also in Health Psych there. And this is something that I am not sure about doing anymore . But at the Rockies I would be a in Sports Psych. Is it odd that I am changing . I am just so scared, the chooses I make in ithe next few weeks will last with me forever so I would really like someone elses point of view . All this stuff is just out there, Ph.D , Psy.d, accredited RA, non-accredited APA, $ years of my life ... vs 2 years of my life . In the words of charlie brown ugh! I just don't no what to do . I know no one can tell me what to do, but I would just like someone else's point of view . BTW I want to work with a sports them, but until I can do that working at a college would be fine for me . Thanks
I don't know if this helps you any but personally, I would not do a program unless it was APA. You can't get licensed, which is a big thing as the psychology field is very competitive from what I can tell as an outsider looking in. If you want to work with a sports team, they will have plenty of qualified candidates to choose from who are licensed.
I would have my licensed as a cousnelor than, and it would take me a longer time just get my psych license from the get go. I am just so tried of school, and sick of low paying jobs that I just do to take up my time while I am in school .
Perhaps you could start with why you are considering switching from Walden to University of the Rockies. Also, just to clarify, Univ of the Rockies is not accredited by the APA. However, they are a regionally accredited institution.
I just do not like Walden. Like I have been writing to the advisers for a week and calling them as well and I still have not get help with something I needed . So how key is a school being APA accredited?
