I did see a thread in 2008, I believe may have the year wrong, in which a few folks spoke of potential history Ph.Ds...but nothing has gone forward. So, has anyone out there seen or know of any online schools offering a Ph.D. in history?? Best regards to all! Ken
I too remember such a thread. In the meantime here is a DETC DA program that might fit your needs: http://www.chumsci.edu/pages/degree/doctorarts-overview.asp
hi ken - please take a look through these old threads http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=30061 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=23201 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=27169
For a long time, the Union Institute & University's www.myunion.edu PhD in Humanities and Culture was the only US-based RA short-residency doctoral program in history. If DETC is okay, you might try Harrison Middleton University www.chumsci.edu, which offers both a DA program organized around the Great Ideas (which can be tailored to emphasize the humanities and social sciences) and the EdD program (which emphasizes the history, philosophy, and politics of education). If ancient history is to your liking, you might try the University of Florida's www.ufl.edu PhD in Classical Civilization. For some time now, it has been rumored that American Military University www.apus.edu and Sam Houston State University www.shsu.edu were going to open up online doctorates in history. There is, of course, the option of the dissertation-only doctorate and Bears' Guide cites the options of the University of Luton www.luton.ac.uk, the University of Melbourne www.unimelb.edu.au, the University of New England www.une.edu.au, the University of South Africa www.unisa.ac.za, and the University of Teesside www.tees.ac.uk.
