    Hi All,
Are you aware of any schools offering a Doctor of Social Science degrees, either on-line or as a hybrid program with occasional visits to campus??

I know that the DSSc or DSocSci is a relatively new degree, but i have had a hard time finding any distance options.

I do know of the program at Leicester in HR: http://www.clms.le.ac.uk/courses/doctorate/
and i found this interesting one at University of Cork College: http://www.ucc.ie/en/CKH71/ (although it dosent appear to be availble to non-EU applicants as a part-time option)

If you are able to find any others I would be greatly appreciative.

    Take care,
    Mike

    Good evening!

You already mentioned my favorite DSocSci program at Leicester, but you might consider Bristol's program even though it appears to require a number of visits to campus. More information can be seen at http://www.bristol.ac.uk/sps/studying/postgraduate/dsocsci/structure/ on the web.

Good luck with your search for the right degree program!

A dissertation is required for one (if not all) of the above mentioned DSocSci degrees. So why not also consider Ph.D., DPA, and D.Prof. options?

    Hi Ian,
That is a very good question.... My interestst are rather interidsciplinary, Ive done graduate work in Sociology, Anthropology, Leadership Studies, Philosophy, Business, and Public Policy. I still plan to integrate these various disciplines into my studies, so id prefer a more interdisciplinary approach as found in a DSocSci program.

Also, If i had to chose one discipline for a PhD, i would select Anthropology but i cant find any taught PhDs by distance, they are all research and that just would be less attractive to me personally (i tend to like more structure and measurable progress as well as interaction with colleagues).

I havent found D.Prof programs that seem to havethat type of interdisciplinary apprioach, but i would be very grateful if anyone coud suggest any distance or Hybrid D.Profs.

    Thanks for asking, take care
    Mike

Agreed, except for the UK Ph.D., which is a "big book" thesis degree and will more than likely require on-campus stays.

Yes, the thesis is required for the DSoSci at Leicester, but it is like the U.S. "small book" variety. The program has a "taught" component (comparable to coursework), plus the thesis. The thesis is limited to 50,000 words, vice the 80-100,000-word limit seen in a lot of Ph.D. "programmes."
