Hi all, I recently applied to APU for their MA History-Capstone program. I was surprised that it sounded like they would accept 6 credits from my previous grad work towards the MA degree (in place of the 2 electives). Am I understanding this correctly, that the two courses I took and used towards my previous degree could also be counted towards the MA from APU? They sent me an email saying I need to get a "course by course evaluation" done since the grad work was done in Canada, and gave a long list of potential agencies in the US to do this, ex "Center for Applied Research, Evaluations, & Education, Inc." Has anyone done this? Does it cost a lot? (One company I looked at quoted $125 to do the evaluation?) Do you have any recommendations as to who I should go with, because it's hard to say which company would be good just by looking at a list of names ...
No replies so far, hmmm ... let me simplify my request a bit Can anyone suggest a good place to have a course by course evaluation done? Or are they pretty much all the same? Thanks
When I needed to have my UK college courses/certificates evaluated for my Excelsior degree I was required to use Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc, Milwaukee, WI. I was pleased with their evaluation of my UK courses with equivalent USA academic credit (I got what I thought I should). That was in 1991 (wow - time flies) I just checked to see if ECE is still in business and found their web site at: http://www.ece.org/ You can submit your request for evaluation on line.
I think the best thing for you to do is to contact the college or university that you're wanting the course-by-course evaluation done. They probably have a list of the ones that they accept or approve. This is slightly different depending upon where you attend. So, it would be wise for you to contact the college or university you're interested in considering and to go with the ones that are on their list. That's why I think people are not responding because it's not like you're transferring in credits from one college or university to another that is within the same country.
Okay thanks for the suggestions so far! APU sent me a list of about two dozen different firms so I was just interested if there was one that was known to be good. I guess I'll have to just visit their websites and pick one that seems reputable and reasonably cheap.
I'm glad to hear it. As long as it is listed that would seem to suffice, and besides which is the least expensive, perhaps you should also find out which one gets done the quickest.
So was Educational Credential Evaluators on the APU list? ECU charges $130 US for a course by course evaluation.
That is an absolutely great price, and very helpful. See if that is on the list of acceptable sources, and if so, that wouldn't be too bad of a price. Please let us know.
