Hi, Guys. First time poster on the site but I have learned a lot over the past few months just reading the posts that you place on the site. Very informative! My question is two parts - I have heard that WGU is generous with credits for PMP certification. Does anyone know if this true and if so, how many hours? Secondly, does any RA award credits for LEED AP? I have tested and passed both this year and would like to know the opportunities. Any help is appreciated.

I have never heard of any school offering academic credit for passing the LEED-AP exam.

Some professional licensing boards, like architecture boards, may grant continuing education credit for passing the LEED-AP exam. However, such credit would contribute towards the maintenance of a professional license, rather than towards an academic degree.

The LEED-AP exams tests a candidate's knowledge of the "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design" (LEED) rating systems for buildings, which are developed by the US Green Building Council.

If you pass, you get the title of "LEED Accredited Professional", or LEED-AP.

So in this field, the term "accredited" is applied to individuals, rather than to schools. This is a usage that will probably seem strange to most of the contributors on this board.

It may seem that the word "certified" would have been a more appropriate choice than the word "accredited." However, in the LEED world, the term "certified" already has a distinct meaning: it is applied to a building or other project that has been successfully rated using a LEED system.

So buildings are "LEED certified", and individuals are "LEED accredited".

Caldog - Thanks for the response. I have already tested on each of the two certifications and passed. I am just trying to determine if there are any opportunities (and whoever offers the best option if it exists) on college level credits for these two. In reading the posts on the site I learned that many accredited colleges and universities recognize certifications and maybe accreditation by awarding credit even if ACE hasn't recognized them yet, specifically the PMP. Thanks again for replying to my post.

Try to call Charter Oak Special Assessment Coordinator at 860.832.3846 or by e-mail [email protected].

"Charter Oak State College conducts Special Assessments of already completed state or national certifications or licensures to determine whether the subject matter, depth, breadth, and academic rigor of the licensing or certification examination is equivalent to college-level learning. Credentials of the following types, which have not been evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE), National PONSI, or the Connecticut Credit Assessment Program (CCAP), may be submitted by currently matriculated Charter Oak students for review:

Licensure or certification in a specialty on the state or national level
Licensure or certification from a professional organization
Completion of a course sponsored by a noncollegiate organization"

For example they used to give a big chunk of credits (up to 42) to people passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam.

    PMP Credits

Any luck on this? I'm in exactly the same scenario with regards to the PMP. It looks like it should be worth 9 credits, just based on the number of prep classes they have for it...

I posted that back in 2009. As of August 2013, Thomas Edison State College (in New Jersey) offers academic credit for passing the LEED Green Associate exam (3 credits) and the LEED-AP BD+C or LEED-AP O+M exams (5 credits each). The credits are applicable to certain AAS and BSAST programs.

Don't know about the PMP exam though.

The only school I know of that gives credit for the PMP is Excelsior College:

Excelsior College | National exams for credit

There's no harm in asking at the school you are going to. Perhaps you can use it as part of a portfolio for credit if they won't take the exam outright.
