I'm looking for a class that meets the following criteria:

    -taught from a biology department
    -300 or 400 level
    -must contain a lab
    -offered at a distance
    -not zoo/eco

If anyone knows of one, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks!

P.S. I have the really nice selection from Fort Hays, just adding to my list.

TESC has a bunch of upper level biology courses some of which include a lab, These are listed under the prior learning database
    http://www.tesc.edu/plasearch.php
Type in Biology in the search box.
I've not checked further into these courses or how they are taught/evaluated.

I'm taking my first ever biology class (Biological Soil Crusts0 in a few weeks thru UC Riverside and is a one weekend upper division class worth one quater unit. I'm taking several such courses with the intent of earning a TESC BA inNat science.

Ian, TESC just offers the credit- they don't teach PLAs, so that won't work for me. BUT, I'll be interested in hearing about your experiences getting the natural science BA. Since they changed the requirements last month about upper level, I wondered about how hard it would be to earn that degree considering TESC doesn't teach any upper level sciences (global change might be upper level) and none of the CLEPs or DSSTs work. So- you are earning all of your science elsewhere correct? I'd love it if you could keep me posted.

What was the change in upper level requirements you mentioned? It seems like the requirements for the BA Natural Science/Math concentration are unchanged:

Courses transferred to Thomas Edison State College are equated to the following levels: 100, 200, 300 or 400. A maximum of two college-level courses equating to the 100 level can be applied toward the area of concentration. A minimum of 18 credits equating to 300 or 400 Thomas Edison State College courses are required.

I need 30 units for a second degree and only 6 units can be 100 level and 6 at the 200 level. So I have to scrounge around to find affordable upper division classes. So far I have 7 upper level units of nat sci field classes all taken on weekends thru UC Riverside Extension (mostly held locally). I'm in no hurry to earn a degree since it is just for personal enrichment. I do plan on taking a TESC course via the portfolio route on glaciology (GEO-431).

What I have underlined was the change. TESC used to allow 200 level or higher for the whole major (and 2 at 100 level). Every now and again you would hear people say TESC didn't have an upper level requirement, that's what they meant. It only applies to 4 degrees (liberal arts, social science, natural science/math, humanities). Anything with a specific major didn't change.

I took an upper division Genetics course with a virtual lab from Mountain State University towards my BS from Excelsior.

    BIOL 340 Genetics 3
