I took and failed part 1 of CIA exam today. I did all of the questions (about 300) in the Gleim book twice with first time reading through the explanations. The Gleim also came with the software with about 900 questions, but I didn't even touch them. Perhaps I underestimated the materials. Any suggestion on how to tackle the exam next time? Thanks
Gleim CIA Hi sshuang, I am sorry to hear about your result with the CIA Part 1 exam. Regarding exam preparation, I know of at least people who used the Gleim book & test prep software to pass the exams. From what they told me, the key is to do as many practice questions as you can. If a CIA candidate has a lot of audit experience, then the exams are easier. Good luck! Michael Weedon, CA
SShuang, Sorry to hear about that. Ironically I hopped on internet to check the iia.org website because I was thinking about taking the CIA (or EA) while my (#&&$@@ employer has stopped tuition payments. Personally I do better when I hear lectures. If I were to take the CIA, I'd use Lambers. I've reviewed their materials in the past and find I like the video lectures which supplement the books and software. The instructors seem to have some good tips on passing the exam. There are also sample lectures on their website and on youtube. http://www.lambers.com/cia.html I've called the company a few times with questions and Mr Lambers answered them personally. Also, they return email questions quickly. Their prices are not terrible either.
Also there are some words of advice on passing the CIA exam at this site: http://www.cpanet.com/cpa_forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=29
I took the CTP exam on Saturday and passed. Now I am going to get back to the CIA certification. In preparation for the CTP exam, I practiced more than one thousand questions. I am going to need to do the same with the CIA exam.
Congratulations! Although I have never done the CIA exam, I found with the CPA and CMA that doing a ton of practice questions really helped me too. Best of luck to you on the next part!
