East View University?

Anyone heard of this university? I can't find it at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/ and a Google also shows nothing. But quite a sad ending

Man, I've always heard that Singapore has a tough, no-nonsense legal system, but that's extreme. (The gentleman was accused of making false PhD claims, suffered a heart attack in the courtroom and died soon after.)

Seeing as how a search on Google for 'East View University' only produced the Singapore news story and Degreeinfo's comment, my guess is that the unfortunate Mr. Chua made up the whole thing.

Down at the bottom of of the 'Straits Times' story there's something else that's interesting:

"Mr Chua is the second person who has been taken to court this year for allegedly misrepresenting his credentials. Earlier this year, self-styled trading expert Clemen Chiang was ordered by the court to refund the course fees he charged 49 people because of his unaccredited PhD from Preston University in the US state of Alabama.
He has since filed an appeal against the ruling.
More than 400 new claims have been reportedly filed against the 34-year-old options trader."

Lancaster Polytechnic in Britain, which was converted in 1992 to Coventry University.

Wrong - it was Lanchester Polytechnic that became Coventry U.
Lancaster is about 130 miles North of Coventry and has its own univerisity.
