Sweden - it's finally over?

A friend of mine who lives in Sweden just alerted me to a news report she watched on TV. It seems Swedes are definitely going to start charging international students from 2011.

The Swedish government said Friday foreign students from countries outside the European Economic Area will pay for their studies in Sweden starting in the autumn term of 2011.

In the 2010 Budget Bill, the government proposed that foreign students wishing to study in Sweden should pay fees, according to a statement released by Ministry of Education and Research.

The universities and higher education institutions themselves will decide how much to charge. The introduction of fees will be combined with a grant system. The government intends to present a special bill later in the autumn with all the details, the statement said.

I hope so too. And with more money money money coming in, they might offer more programs programs programs via DL.
