Has anyone ever heard of American International University, Ltd. Universidad Internacional de las Americas AC or Commonwealth Open University? Are they legitimate, accredited in any form, etc. Also, is their anyone viewing this board currently attending doctoral studies at the University of Zululand. I would appreciate comments on their experiences. I think if my proposal is accepted I will most likely pursue my doctorate in Sociology or Social Work their!
I know someone who's doing a doctorate at Zululand and has had nothing but positive experiences to date; they're definitely a credible school, and their programs are dirt cheap. The only possible drawback I can see is the name, but that's a minor consideration as far as I'm concerned. Universidad Internacional de las Americas AC (aka AIUUIAAC – no kidding) was an institution reputedly run by Kenneth G Koym (aka Kenneth Koym Grillette) with address given variously as 5605 Woodrow # 9, Austin, TX 78756 or Apartado Postal 5-119, Guadalajara, Jal. CP 45042, Mexico or PO Box 263, Kent, OH 44240 or 711 Altgeld Street South Bend, IN 46614. (But I looked at birth records, and found a Kenneth Koym born to Alma Grillette and Alvin Koym on 5/31/1939 in Fort Bend County, Texas. So maybe South Bend, Indiana, should be Fort Bend County, Texas? Or maybe I’m looking too hard?) AIUUIAAC appeared circa 1999, but now seems to be defunct. Note that there have been a number of non-wonderful “universities” using the “American International University” name. Commonwealth Open University is a non-wonderful registered in British Virgin Islands but reportedly run from Spain. But that’s a great university name and a great web domain name - I wish I had both those names (for another project).
