I'm looking for an online MBA that can be earned in fewer than 12 months. I need to complete it by the end of September 2010. I'm not fussed about quality, I'm afraid (maybe next degree!), I just need to get the qualification fairly quickly.

Less expensive would be preferable, but I'm in no position to be fussy!

    Thanks :)

What a joke. I'm in the 4th year of my distance MBA...it's an extremely rigorous process with 13 pieces of assessed material including 3 really tough yearly exams and a 15000 word dissertation which on average takes 6 months alone.

And people can complete one in a year and the majority of the general public will view our qualifications as equal!

All the best with your search!

    Not much, no!

DaveC, I appreciate your frustration -- I'm frustrated too, as the requirements I need to renew my visa and keep my job changed this summer, and I only have to October 2010 to earn an MBA. Ideally I'd be doing what you're doing!

Thanks for the links to the programs. I've also heard about California Coast University, which I understand may have some accreditation issues -- can anyone speak about that?

California Coast University www.calcoast.edu is accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council. The DETC is a legitimate recognized national accreditor, but national accreditation is less widely accepted than regional accreditation.

Where are you doing your MBA?

Is my cute little 18-month Fast-Track MBA from City University a joke?

Where are you earning your MBA from? That's a really long program. Even Duke's excellent Cross Continent MBA program is designed to be completed in 16 months.

One year is possible if you attend college full time - I had a work acquaintance who took a one year leave and earned his MBA at Michigan (I don't recall which one but it was a top school) but it cost him around $200,000 (tuition, travel, board and lodging, and loss of pay). We all thought he was nuts but he was convinced he would come out ahead in the long run (I never heard he did).

    Roz,

there three inputs you need to look at now:
    1) money
    2) your background.
    3) Free time

I am an Accountant and have found even an RA Distance MBA I can get for 2 courses, 1 term paper, and $50k; bargains such as a 4 course MBA for $9k (can do in 2 terms) and I wish i could have done it, or even worse.

I know people who have finished Aspen in a year, if I could have locked myself away I think I could have done it too...

if DETC accreditation will work I believe you can finish the MBA at Columbia Southern University within a year:

    CSU Enrollment Options

"Per-Course/Open Enrollment System (10 Week Courses)
The CSU Per-Course/Open Enrollment System allows students to begin a course at any time. There are no predetermined semester or session dates. After your first enrollment, you may take one course after another or multiple courses simultaneously.

Courses are designed in an independent study model and are 10-weeks in length. This system is very flexible and is recommended for all students who are not required to use term enrollment."

Well, don't let some fast-tracker get you down. You just keep doing all that unnecessary extra work and keep up the elitist attitude. When you complete this MBA from a, no doubt, top level school you will be rewarded with a C level job in some finance company and you can get rich bankrupting our country.

    It'll be OK, promise.

    Dave,

I feel your frustration but believe me, they are not equal. I used to feel the same till I started using my MBA to get some business certifications. I had no trouble passing the CMA and other accounting certifications. I highly doubt that any of the fast track graduates can pass any serious certification, an MBA alone is almost useless in today's market as most employers require this degree and other certifications such as PMP, CPA, CMA CFA, CFE, CIA, CISSP among others. Most certifications require a strong quantitative background that needs time to build, you can fill your credits for an MBA by writing some essays as many of these new "age" degrees require but I doubt that essay writing can build any serious skill unless you want to go into technical or business writing.
In few words, the time invested in a strong MBA will pay in the long term.

Isn't an MBA from National University doable in 12-months?

If you feel that you need a credible MBA in a short period of time, why not test out all the exams for one? Heriot Watt's MBA can be finished in few months if you have already the knowledge require to get an MBA.

What is considered a strong MBA? The MBA from Duke is designed to be done in 16 months. Stanford's B&M MBA is a 24 month program. Those both seem pretty strong to me.

48 months for an MBA seems abnormally long unless you are taking one class a semester part-time. If that is the case, ANY MBA can be a 4 year program

I finished mine in 5 years. The program was designed to be finished in 24 months full time but I was working full time and couldn't do courses during the summer term.

I assume that the post means "12 months" while working full time. If full time was an option, the person in question might not be considering online learning.

How much can you really learn in one year while working full time? even if you put 20 hours a week (most people don't), how much can you really get out of this program? I realize that there are people that need the MBA tag just to get into the job market and they will end just doing sales, HR or PR and perhaps already know the job and only need the diploma to get noticed. However, if the goal of an individual is to become a financial analyst, operations manager, accountant or other hard core positions, I don't think the fast track MBA would do it for you, I just don't see how someone can develop these skills in a year while working but might be exceptions.

True. 12 months part-time is a bit brief. The OP might be jobless at the moment, however, and is looking for something to better his chances of landing a job in the next year. Maybe they live in the middle of nowhere and there aren't any local B&M programs that are available or affordable.

Or maybe you are right and they just want the letters as quick as possible. My comments were geared towards the poster that jumped all over him for asking about a 12 month program. 12 months isn't unreasonable if it's full-time which the OP did not specify.

How about AMU/APU. If you take two classes at a time (8 week terms), you could finish in a year. I only take 1 class at a time, and I will finish 6 classes in about half a year. It is doable, but a lot of work.

They are both RA and DETC accredited and is pending ACBSP Accreditation.

Here is the link to the General MBA which lists all of the courses. http://www.amu.apus.edu/Academics/Degree-Programs/plan.htm?progid=4735&concid=4611

    Good Luck,
