This question is actually for my cousin. Due to the economy and school cutbacks two of her final semester's classes are only being offered at the same time. After she spoke to her advisor it seems that there is little that can be done unless there is an online alternative. If we can't find her a course she won't be able to graduate until next May as opposed to this December. So I searched these boards and mostly found information that references the master's level degrees.

Here is a course description taken directly from the website:

FINC 356. Investments. 3-3-0. Prerequisite: FINC 302. People, securities and institutions involved in the securities industry. Alternative investment vehicles within a risk return framework. Fa only.

If it's possible please help me find a course equivalent for her based on what you see here. I know next to nothing about finance courses so I'm not much help. I do see that it's a junior year level course if that helps at all. Thanks!

She could probably take this class-- it is a private equity course and it is offered this semester through the Harvard Extension School. It is a graduate level course and will cost 1850.00

    Private Equity
    MGMT E-2790 Private Equity (13418)

    Fall term

Gitanjali Meher Swamy, MBA, PhD, General Partner, The Zuci Group.

Class times: Thursdays beginning Sept. 3, 5:30-7:30 pm. Optional sections to be arranged.

    Course tuition: graduate credit $1,850.

This course introduces private equity (PE) and its practice today under extra-normal growth, inefficient markets, rapid globalization, and cycles of growth-disillusionment. It covers the selection, operation, and assessment of direct/indirect PE investments and includes practical frameworks and tools for evaluation; operating best-practices; impacts of geography, product, and industry; compensation; contract structures; economics; returns; global private equity, portfolio and investment management and governance. Formerly FINC E-190. Prerequisites: MGMT E-2000, E-2020, or E-2700, or the equivalent; basic mathematics (MATH E-3, or the equivalent); ECON E-1010 and E-1012 recommended but not required. (4 credits)

Troy offers an Investments course through DL. It's 400 level, but they should accept it. Check their course schedule. It's a 9 week course and starts in term 2 (in a couple of months). $220/credit.

Unfortunately it isn't possible to find online. I can't recall exactly which course it is but it requires a brick and mortar setting so she's left with trying to find this finance course.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I'll relay these to her so her advisor can review them.

    How about this...?

    Regis University www.regis.edu

    http://www.regis.edu/regis.asp?sctn=cpmgmt&p1=ap&p2=fin&p3=cd

    FIN 435 FUNDAMENTALS OF INVESTMENTS (3.00) Studies the relationship between risk and return in the management of investment portfolios, including the analysis of stocks, bonds and other securities. Prerequisite(s): BA 430 or FIN 400;

I can't find out if there's a class in time for a December graduation.

    Good luck to her!

P.S. Disclaimer...I am scheduled to potentially teach that class but not until 2010.
