This is Columbia Pacific University in a new set of clothes. IMO, the Malawi "accreditation" is a dodge to avoid any meaningful oversight, while also fooling people into thinking they are legitimately accredited.

The statements emanating from the office of CCU's president (he is in California; his university is an office in Montana) convey great confidence that the school will become accredited by the Northwest Association, and also admitted to membership in the Association of Commonwealth Universities, which would then get them into UNESCO's International Handbook of Universities.

My feeling is that the chances of any of this happening are incredibly small. But then there were times when I would have given awfully good odds against the likelihood of a Polish Pope, the end of the Soviet Union, or a pro wrestler becoming Governor of Minnesota.

Who knows, John, perhaps at some point in the future I will begin my own degree mill, and offer the Chancellorate via DL.

    Associate: 64 hours
    Bachelor: 128 hours
    Master: 36-90 hours
    Doctorate: 36-60 hours
Chancellorate: Awarded during the administration of last rites. [IMG]

  5. Yes they (CCWU) are "accredited" by the Republic of Malawi. However, Malawi is not in the business of accreditation as we know it. Malawi, however, approves CCWU and supports CCWU.

This status on its own won't cut it with the world academic community. If CCWU gets entry into Association of Commonwealth Universities (which can only happen, I am told, by the request of the Malawi government) CCWU's value in the academic world moves up some more notches. If CCWU then gets entry into UNESCO, some more value is added.

However, let's get real, pragmatically academic, and businesslike. Would CCWU+ Malawi+ ACU+ UNESCO = acceptance by the academic community, and therefore degree respectability and portability? I think the jury is still out on that one. Besides CCWU at this juncture only has Malawi accreditation (itself an enigmatic and obscure something-or-other that raises a red flag).

I wouldn't put my money down until I have verification from the academic community that its members would consider CCWU degrees for entry into higher degrees.

    Earon,
Who holds a CCWU M.S. (tuition paid by research activities - not sure if I got a good deal - I may have saaved $$$ but it did take some years),
and has just upgraded his HWMBA program to eMBA status.
