Howdy Folks! I finished my 2nd semester with WNMU this summer. I was able to earn an "A" in both Railroad History and World Politics. This, however, did not come with a little bit of stress. First off, I can't remember which one of you recommended that I NOT take 2 4-week courses together (I was planning on doing World Politics and Economic Development of Latin America together), but THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE! Holy moley! That 4 week course was intense! I had the 2nd half of Railroad History overlapping World Politics, and had I not been off for the summer, I never would have been able to get things done. I enjoyed World Politics, but I think I would have liked it more had it been spread out rather than crammed into 4 weeks. If I learned anything this term, it was definitely to NOT overload myself. So again, thanks to those of you who gave me the heads up. When next summer rolls around, I will hopefully be done with the degree, but I will make sure to advise people to NOT take 2 of the 4 week courses at the same time. -Matt
That was me. I even posted a little chart for you showing that a 4 week course will need around 40 hours of work a week. It sounds like I wasn't too far off on my estimate. I'm glad to hear you survived, however. I really liked the WNMU Railroad History course as well as the professor. Overall, based on my experience with that one class, I'd recommend WNMU.
And do I ever appreciate that chart! Perhaps that should be something we put together on this forum. Some pieces of advice for folks new to distance learning. A big "DO NOT TAKE MULTIPLE SHORT COURSES AT ONE TIME!" would be my piece of advice after taking World Politics. Yes, Professor Warren is great. I'm taking his Age of Marshall course in the fall and am looking forward to it, especially now that I know his methods. -Matt
I have the same advice for those enrolling at Andrew Jackson University under their ultra-cheap "sponsored tuition" program. Don't confuse "cheap and online" with "cheap and easy." I took three courses at once, and it was rough. I did it, but I don't recommend it. Two courses at the same time would have been much better for me.
Matt, I'm interested in taking the History of Railroads course. Is it a 4 or 8 week course? From the WNMU web site it says it is an 8 week course. http://www.wnmu.edu/VirtualCampus/Available_Courses.htm Please clarify. Thanks. Ian
Railroad History was 8 weeks... then about a half week for the final assignments. I would highly recommend the course. It involves a lot of reading, but the readings are interesting, so it's well worth it. I'm not sure when it will be offered again. This was the first time it was done online. Keep in mind if it were offered over the fall or spring the course would be more spread out. -Matt
Fall semester has started . . how is everyone doing? I'm excited, I have some courses that look like they are going to be good. Good luck everyone!
Taking Frontier Law Enforcement I have professor Warren for Frontier Law Enforcement. Classes started yesterday. I am also taking Cowboys and Presidents. I have just completed two masters degrees, but you are scaring me ...are the semesters a tad less stressful? And...I didn't see the Age of the Marshall course offered. That sounds great! Thx Dan
