Yes, there have been threads like this one. But I want my own... I decided that it is time for me to know more about my Christian identity and the Bible in general. I am looking for a course that helps me read in the Bible or simply think about my belief system. My denomination is a little complicated since I am not from the US, but I think I belong to the United Church of Christ (I am a member of the Evangelical State Church of Baden, Germany. We are a united church). It would be nice if the course were rooted in that tradition, but I am open to good courses of any (or no) denomination. I am interested in learning, not indoctrination. I don't have a lot of money to spend right now, so free or cheap would be awesome. Thanks for your help!
I read the bible online every day at this website. Specificaly, I read the NIV New Testament in a year.
Here are other sites online for free self-study. Some are Bible study and some are courses of various kinds in theology: http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/readingplans/ http://www.freecourses.org/ http://calvinschool.info/?page_id=237 http://www.mdivs.edu/freecourses.html http://apologeticscourses.com/ http://trinitytheology.org/?page_id=231 http://education-portal.com/articles/5_Universities_Offering_Free_Theology_and_World_Religions_Courses_Online.html http://www.worldwide-classroom.com/ http://rbc.christiancourses.com/course/category.php?id=22 http://biblesurvey.net/ http://brethrenassembly.com/ http://ockenga.gordonconwell.edu/ockenga/dimensions/ This next one is OT only but I find the video class lectures, by a Yale professor, are excellent: http://academicearth.org/subjects/religion That should pique your interest. I did a Froogle search using the term "free online theology courses." These are just a few of the links. I'm familiar with the search because I needed a solid graduate level online course encompassing the entire Bible and found there were many resources for free study. It's the Great Commission turned high tech!
