I would like to finish this degree as fast as I can so is two to three years a realistic goal? Thanks in advance.

To narrow down the options a bit, what subject are you interested in pursuing?

A good RA PhD in two or three years? Three years maybe, but not two.

I was recently accepted to the PhD program in Education at NCU. What have you heard that is negative about this school? They gave me a military discount "scholarship" and the curriculum is 100% online. Just curious about the negative
and positive issues surrounding this school before I dive in..... you got me nervous. They are regionally accredited which is in my opinion absolutely essential!

    Thanks for clarifying.

In his post he mentioned DBA which is a business degree.

Yeah, I noticed that....but even a DBA candidate can specialize in many different fields.

Other people with more information can jump in but as far as I know, NCA was visited recently by the regional accreditors and they extended their accreditation by only 3 years due to "some issues" which I don't have any first hand knowledge. Most schools get extended for 10 years. If they don't fix these issues in 3 years, they will lose their RA status.

Hopefully someone else with additional info can fill you in.

    Nca

Is NCA the same as NCU? Northcentral University?

Oops, yes. Sorry. I meant NCU, not NCA. NCU (Northcentral U.) is the school that only got extended for 3 years due to issues.

Can you provide more details on what you have heard? I have also heard some bad things about NCU, UoP, TUI, Walden, University of Florida, USF, St Petersburg College, Fordham, Rutgers, Yale, Thomas Edison....get the idea?

Consider the source of the information and their credibility and much you trust them.

    Ncu

    Hi Randell1234,

I noticed you are a doctoral student at NCU, can you comment on the school and programs?

    Thanks.

Personally I would have no problem enrolling with either of the schools you mentioned. There is one member of this forum attending Argosy and several attending NCU.

Since you have an MBA from TUI have you looked into their Ph.D. program?

You should know if their programs are good or not.

I doubt if you can earn an RA doctorate from anywhere in 2 or 3 years - I know seveal Ph.D. holders and it took them 5 or 6 years full time on campus.

    rjohn006,

First off welcome to the board and thanks for your military service. I would think that Argosy and NCU would be widely accepted based on the regional accreditation each school currently holds, however their reputations (rightly deserved or not) may limit you in certain situations depending on the biases others have against these types of schools. I see that you've completed both HRD and Management graduate degrees and are interested in a business-related field so thought I'd mention a degree program I recently became aware of.

Colorado State University is offering a Ph.D. in Education and Human Resource Studies with a specialization in Organizational Performance and Change. The program requires students to attend classes 5 Saturdays each semester in Brighton, CO and it looks like the course work can be completed in 7 semesters. According to CSU's web site the coursework is followed by a dissertation which typically takes 6-12 months to complete. The next cohort begins in January 2010 and the course work concludes in June 2012. Tuition is $619 per credit hour and you need to have completed a master's degree in a related or supporting discipline, so I would think your HRD and Management degrees would meet this requirement.

I am fairly certain that Colorado State University would be accepted pretty much anywhere and the reputation of the school far outweighs both Argosy's and NCU's. I know it isn't entirely distance-based, but depending on your current duty station and MOS you might be able to attend the Saturday courses in Colorado. I am currently enrolled in Webster's HRD program myself and CSU's Ph.D. in Organizational Performance and Change appeals to me and aligns with my interests and future goals.

Here are links to the degree program in case you want to check it out further:

It has been good so far. I have been taking the slowwwwww road and started on the PhD in late 2004. So far so good. The feedback is great and only had one instructor that I really did not like.

Randell, have you heard anything regarding accreditation for NCU? I know NCU was given a 3 year as opposed to 10.

Here the thread discussing the accreditation from last year. I think since then, NCU fired their president and has made a bunch of changes (including selling NCU to someone else) so it appears they are serious about keeping RA status. I don't have an opinion on the school either way, I just remembered stumbling across this when I was searching for something else.

Have you considered Capella University? I should be finishing my disseration in a couple of months and I have been very happy with my experiences there.

NCU was never put on probation by the regional accreditators.
