    Hi everybody,

Besides LSU is anyone familiar with any upper level accounting classes that one can take on-line? I'd like to pay <= $125 a credit hour. Just seeing what's out there. Thanks!

You might have a hard time finding anything for less than $125 per credit hour other than LSU.

When I searched for the same thing, I didn't find anything cheaper than UCLA Extension, at $500 a class (4 q.h.). It may be a bit more now. The only cheaper option was trying to challenge a class at Athabasca University. My wife used both options.

Try waubonsee Community college at http://www.waubonsee.edu/

They are offering auditing and advance accounting this fall via online learning.

    Cheap and exam is un-proctor.

You may need to check with the college whether the course offered is upper level though.

I have enrolled in their Cost Accounting course this summer and the services is really great so far.

    Good Luck.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions! What I'm looking at are ways to take a couple of advanced level accounting courses (preferably on the cheap) in anticipation of completing a second BS in accounting at Excelsior. I've already taken intermediate accounting 1 & 2, auditing, federal taxation, and cost accounting, all lower level, as part of my certificate. I had hoped to take advanced and governmental accounting through LSU but the governmental accounting course is on hold. They offer a fraud auditing and forensic accounting course but it would most likely overlap with Excelsior's required ACC 350 fraud prevention and detection course. I would like to take them both at the same school if at all possible to keep from having to send 2 more transcripts to any other programs that I may enroll in in the future, however if it comes down to doing that to take advantage of the cheap tuition at LSU, even for 1 course, I guess I'll do it. In completing my TESC degree without thinking I accumulated credits from 6 schools plus CLEP and DANTES exams. Needless to say it cost close to $150+ to apply to grad school.:(

Excelsior doesn't have an ACC350 Fraud prevention. Not sure why that is listed in their catalog when I contacted them about an accounting degree. They only listed that as an example of some of the upper division acc courses you can take.

In regards to LSU, try contacting the LSU Continuing Education at 800-234-5046. I remember when I was talking to them about courses that was on hold and was told even if they are on hold, it's still possible to take the course, as long as you can get the book that is listed.

Excelsior did offer that course, I took ACC*350 during the Spring 2008 semester and it was a 4 credit course at that time. I do not know if they still offer it.

    dlcurious,

joel 66 is correct, LSU will allow you to enroll in an independent study course that is currently "on hold" as long as you are able to find the textbook needed for the course. My wife finished HR Management earlier this year and it was on hold when she originally enrolled at LSU. If you can locate the textbook through an online vendor then you should be able to enroll in the governmental accounting course.

I took forensic accounting through LSU. It was very easy. I would imagine this course would be very similar to Excelsior's Fraud Prevention for a fraction of the price.
