Please don't ask for my academic credentials; I have none. If you really must know, I have a G.E.D.

I am exploring DL and am looking hard at Northcentral. I know they are a candidate for regional acceditation. I am, for the sake of questioning, assuming that they will achieve RA.

    My questions are:

Will other RA schools accept their credits/degrees earned during the candidacy period?

    Will employers do the same?

My special thanks to Dr. John Bear for his inspiration.

    Thanks,

    Bob

An oft-asked question with no absolute answers.

A few years down the road after Northcentral gets accreditation (assuming they do, a big assumption), employers will be very unlikely to check and/or notice the difference between Northcentral during candidacy and Northcentral as an accredited school.

Other schools might be pickier; I believe that the RAs technically say that there is no retroactivity of credits or degrees earned during candidacy. Of course, other schools could probably quietly ignore this if they so chose...

But the safe answer is choose a school that's RA now if you're not the gambling type. If you are, I'd say it's a pretty good bet that an employer won't give you problems (assuming Northcentral does in the end achieve RA). I'd be less sure about academia, though you could probably find *a* school that would work with you.

Chip, you say "a big assumption". Is there something that needs to be addressed?

Mr. Fiske, I'm glad to have provided inspiration. Now I provide the advice that at the Bachelor's level, I would not recommend any unaccredited school, even one that has candidacy. With hundreds of schools with recognized accreditation, why take the chance, even with a school that may well become accredited in the future. (While the North Central Assocation accrediting agency suggests that they decide within four years, there is, I think, no guarantee. In a famous instance, the excellent Union Institute remained a candidate for accreditation for nine years.)
