In late November I began a semi-sabbatical to begin writing my thesis. Chapter 2 has just been completed and submitted to Potchefstroom and GST, and I am beginning to write Chapter 3 (8 chapters in all). The process moves forward!

I also noticed on the Reformed Theological Seminary website that a Potchefstroom Ph.D. has been hired as an adjunct faculty member, a Dr. Soy I believe.

Are you also going to conduct a research? Survey? What methodology are you using? I am just curious.

    Russell,
Do you have an email address for anyone in the theology department? I have several questions that I would like addressed - I would like to have an MDiv. and also find out about the BTh for a friend. Thanks. Congrats on chapter 2, this proved to be a challenging chapter for me. Good Luck. [email protected]

    Howard,

If you access the PU website ( www.puk.ac.za ), then go to Faculties, then Theology, you will find e-mails per area of research.

    Ike,

The methodology is outlined in one's research proposal, which must be approved by both PUCHE and GST. The Ph.D. builds on one's master's degree, and must be in the same area of study as the masters.

As for my particular methodology, no surveys/questionnaires will be used. I am using: 1) Historical research of my subject matter, e.g., New Testament, Early Church, etc.; 2) Denominational research & historical data; and 3) Exegesis. This had to be outlined in detail in the RP, and approved before the actual process began.

Thanks for the reply. I needed information on the methodologies used in dissertations in the field of Religion/Theology and your explanation has helped me. One day I may pursue a religious/theology degree.

A book that Russell recommended elsewhere is Quality Research Papers: For Students of Religion and Theology, by Nancy Jean Vyhmeister. It is about $14 (US) at Amazon.com. I think it would be a good investment for someone contemplating such a move.

Russell is also using one of those eightball oracles for some of his research, but he doesn't like to talk about it. [IMG]

Only for Chapter 5, Bill, which is titled "Toward an Understanding of Coincidence, Chance and Metaphysical Direction." I am currently researching the relationship between crystalology and space dust, and their subsequent impact on Liberation Theology. [IMG]
