I know someone from a poorer country, Thailand to be exact, in their early 30s with kids, never even went to HS. Said they worked on the family farm from age 12. They are trying to get a job but HS diplomas are required for most everything above construction work, street stalls, or other shady endeavors, and in Thailand if you don't finish HS and university by your early to mid-20s, it's "game over." Hard to believe such ruthlessness exists even in this day but it does.

I saw the Penn Foster high school diploma program, but at $1200 usd that would be out of their price range, and the minimum three years to complete may not be feasible. Any recommendations for someone with low income, far away in SE Asia, to complete their HS diploma, or perhaps equivalency? Likewise any ideas if such programs would be recognized by employers and schools in Thailand? I will be happy to pass on any information. They seem keen to learn and mentioned doing other independent studies, including English conversation.

Sorry to say this but, do you pay any attention to the news? On the ruthlessness scale this is mild. You want ruthlessness? Look here:

More to your point. It strikes me that one possible obstacle to either of these solutions is the language barrier. Is that an issue?

You might want to look at this site by our old friend Tom Nixon. He knows a whole lot about distance learning high school diplomas.

    Good luck to your friends

Does this person live in the USA? If yes then what state?

In California there is an option for non-high school graduates to earn a GED certificate at local adult schools at minimal cost

Maybe other states offer a similar program.

Thanks for the plug. Might I suggest http://BestOnlineHighSchools.com?

My guess is that Continental Academy will be about as close as you are going to get. It is amazingly inexpensive for something that is legitimately accredited.

I would also recommend Excel High School. Regionally accredited by North Central Association CASI and very affordable.
